VX42L Has standby power but wont turn on.

Hello all, first post but I do want to say I have done some reading before I decided to post.

Any ways i have a vx42l tv that has amber light vizio logo but no response from power button. I do not have the remote as well.

So i took the back off the tv and it has one power supply, main board, tcon board and on big back light inverter on the left side of the tv. (as far as big boards go)

So after reading i tested standby by voltage with power hooked up and got 5v from the meter.(all boards connected)

I then went to the main board and check f1 and got 5vs, went to f2 which i believe should give out voltage as well and read nothing. I also held the power button down and still no voltage from f2. I checked continuity on f2 and its good.

So does this lead me to a bad main board? since the power supply on signal is not being sent?

I also read something about a u33 but i believe thats for when the vizio logo lights up white and no picture?

EDIT: I test u7,u8,u9, u33 pin 2 and u7 and u9 were really low the others were around 3.26. These are the 3 pin ic

You are likely to get more help if you post good clear pictures of your boards
a lot of us out here have no idea what you are talking about. The U ics are usually voltage regulators and they have clues in the part numbers as to what voltage they should be. Also test the voltage on any supporting caps.

I just got done working on one of these Vizio VX42L and the LOGO would turn white when I press power but the screen would not come on and the TV would not turn off. Most of the time when this happens it is a voltage regulator on the main board but with this model it was the EEPROM IC. So I ordered an EEPROM IC for this model TV, I copied it to my computer and tried to rewrite to the old EEPROM but it did not work, I am guessing the IC was faulty. So I went ahead and installed the new EEPROM IC and now the TV works perfect. The EEPROM IC is located at U14

Symptoms EEPROM replacement MAY fix:
- On screen display is stuck on logo screen
- TV won't power on with remote or buttons (LED indicator remains same color)
- TV won't turn on after being off for 30+ minutes
- TV shuts off by itself during channel scan or when switching inputs
- TV turns on and is stuck in color test pattern mode forever
- TV turns on but there is no backlight (LED indicator shows TV is on but there is no image)

Post a high resolution, straight shot picture of your main board.

maybe this kit? send them a email i think the ic you need is u14 as this kit maybe just voltage regulators

I see the post but I have not been to my shop yet to check if I have it. If I don't you could always remove the IC and send it to me and then I can make you a new one.

I can not find the EEPROM for your TV in my stock so if you can remove the IC and ship it to me I can make you a new one. Or you would have to ship me the whole board. Send me a private message.

what tests have you done on this tv? whats seems wrong with the tv? as similar faults dont always mean the same parts are bad.

If the EEPROM is bad, at least go freeze it with a can of air upside down. If the TV turns on, your got a EEPROM problem. If it still doesn't the change has gone awfully high that the main IC is bad.
