    LG 42LH3000-ZA bad picture

    Hi,

My five year old LCD bought in late '09 (manufactured September '09) just started producing a really dark picture from a cold start after a couple of days without any use.
The picture is dark in all inputs, menus and usb media player.

Did the following with no results:
    mess with color options/wb
    factory reset
messed around in the service menu tool options 1 (panel type) 3,4, WB, test pattern (only showed white)
Updated firmware from 3.15 to 3.75 (service menu shorcut not working/altered?)
swabbed with alcohol and resat t-con flat cables and connectors
heat gunned as15-hf to try reflowing
    No change at all.

Caps visually look ok. Everything looked clean and new for a five year old set. Just a couple of wires got loose from the tape holding them on the backplate. The t-con is an AUO ref T420HW04 V0 42T06-C03 barcode UZ-5542T06C16

The picture isn't solarized/negative like in most faulty AS15, but I suspect this GAMMA chip. It has no thermal pads like the samsung models, no heat dissipation at all on the t-con. Just one chip on the main board and of course the bulky power board have heatsinks.

Any idea besides getting a presumably new t-con over [fl]e[a]bay? Or toss it for a new one like the manufacturers want us to do? The resoldering of this tinny SMD is beyond my skill set, might try it later if a new t-con fixes the LCD. The chip on this board is AS15-HF, are AS15-F and AS15-G compatible?

t sure looks like bad Gamma voltages, you can take the reading of the Gamma voltages at the test point on the board and report the readings.
You should match the PCBA P/N printed on the barcode and then go to shopjimmy.com

      Re: LG 42LH3000-ZA bad picture

      Thanks for the help.
I got a "new board" on ebay from a seller shipping from the US which has sold a ton of these. Although the serial number wasn't an exact match it fixed the LCD. The flat cable from the mainboard had to be pushed a bit harder than with the original t-con.
My serial was: UZ-5542T06C16, "new board" is TZ-5542T06C12.

From this experience I would say that as long as the ref T420HW04 V0 42T06-C03 matches between boards, the serial number (on barcode label) besides 42T06 doesn't matter.

Anyone tried to put a heatsink on this chip to prevent it from going bad? Or are voltage spikes from line power the origin of the problem? Maybe a UPS with voltage normalization could help?

VIZIO E70-E3 Half picture with half TCON
        by Fly_Among_Stars
        Hi,
        I have a VIZIO E70-E3.
Symptoms: Black screen, no picture, but LED backlights are working.
I probed the power board and voltages are as listed on the board.
        Main board appears fine, too.
I believe the problem is either a bad T-CON board, or connection to LCD, or bad LCD.
There are two separate ribbon cables feeding the LCD.
If both are connected, the screen is black.

If only the ribbon cable that feeds the right side of the screen (when viewed from the front) is disconnected, the left side of the screen shows picture and...

Samsung LCD TV no picture backlight on no 12v at tcon
        by shelby5041
        hi
i have a samsung lcd tv

it powers on with sound and backlight but no picture

all voltages from PS are good 12v 3.3v and 5v

whats odd is that at the tcon i tested voltage across the fuse on the tcon and i get 0v

i figured main board issue..so i ordered a used main board....when i put replacement main board in i still have same issue

no 12v at the tcon fuse

i disconnect the panel ribbon cables to rule out any panel issues and i still have no 12v at the tcon fuse

        the odds of having 2...

TCL 50S535 bad tcon or panel issue?
        by x_orange90_x
Just bought this for 10 bucks yesterday hoping to fix it. The guy said water dropped inside from a dehumidifier hose and it started showing black and white vertical bars then went blank. When I got it home and turned it on it came on fine and displayed correctly but I was noticing faint vertical bars in the image. After a little bit I turned it off and back on and it was a black screen again. I opened it up to check for water damage and corrosion but didn't find anything of the sort. I cleaned the ribbons anyway and reconnected them but still got a blank screen. If I disconnect the right side...

T-con suspect issue. Both ribbon cables no picture. One ribbon cable ok. (58pus8545)
        by Tr0ll
Hi guys! I realized you have a lot of knowledge here so i am hoping you could point me in right direction with my odd issue.

The Tv is a Philips 58PUS8545/12, it had no picture but working backlights.

        Original T-con:
Opened the Tv and tested to unplug one ribbon cable at a time. With this test i could see that i got fine picture on both halves as long as there was only one ribbon cable connected, with two connected picture were gone.

        First replacement T-con:

I thought it might be t-con and ordered new t-con from china(supposedly tested)...

SAMSUNG UN55KS9000F picture fades then distorts into vertical lines after 20 seconds
        by JJAAMM
This was my main TV for the last 6 years. I'm not inclined to throw out a $2600 TV so quickly so I'm trying to investigate the issue.

        Problem
TV was disconnected from power for 6 months during construction. When I plugged it yesterday picture was fine, after 30 seconds it dimmed then started developing horizontal lines, picture then starts to ghost vertically until it degrades into vertical streaks. TV always displays a perfect picture when cold. I can unplug TV for 5 minutes and plug it back in and picture is restored for 20 seconds. I can also keep it in standby mode...
