    Samsung Y-scan (buffer) replacement boards?

I ordered a Y-Scan (buffer) Samsung Part# BN96-09760A from a company out in California (Dappz.com). The part came quickly to NY (free 2 day), but when I looked at the board numbers, these did not match the numbers I have on my board (see below).

I need to know if the board sent to me is considered a revised version to the one I pulled, since all of the screw mounting, black connectors and white connectors all match size and position. If you look at the attached picture (my original y-scan on top), there are slight differences in components and placement.

The part I received today (12/31/14) has the following part numbers printed on the board:

    MODEL NO: 58'UF1P YB_LO (4L)
    PCB NO: LJ41-06571A
    REV NO: R1.0 (09/01/30)
    PBA NO: LJ92-01666A/B/C/D

When cross referencing the above part, this is shown as Samsung Part #BN96-11310A and it does show this part as being found in my TV model (PN58B650S1FXZA), but I am concerned with mixing and matching this new part with my existing.

The part I ordered is Samsung Part# BN96-09760A with the following numbers printed on my existing board:

    MODEL NO: 58'UF 1P YB_LOW
    PCB NO: LJ41-05759A
    REV NO: R1.0 (08/11/27)
    PBA NO: LJ92-01571A/B/C/D

    Any help is appreciated.

More than likely it will work just fine. There are usually no major issues with minor revision changes like that.

Before installing it, might be worth doing this test:

      tom66,

Thank you for the quick reply. I have already tested the board and it checks out (no shorts). I actually used this same test to determine my lower-Y was bad.

For the sake of being thorough, I contacted several other sources regarding the different PBA numbers and only wish the replies were the same. This is what was said.

      shopjimmy.com:
The different PBA numbers show that the part I received is a known replacement for my TV.

      Local Samsung TV repair:
Couldn't comment on the exact PBA numbers, but said if the number of IC's on the Y-Lower match the number of IC's on the part I received, the board "should" work.

      samsungparts.com:
Said the board I received was for a different version of my TV, but also said my TV doesn't have y-buffers - which is not true.

      dappz.com:
Said the parts comes directly from samsung and it unlikely they would send me the wrong part, however, when I gave closer inspection, I found the part that was sent to me was not in the anti-static bag. The bag was pushed all the way to the bottom of the box, crumpled up. The box has the correct number on it but the part in the box is different.

I'm OK with using a known replacement part but only if I could find a legit source for cross referencing numbers. I am just trying to set my mind at ease and feel better about trying the part I received as opposed to sending it back.

Thanks again for any comments and/or suggestions.

Re: Samsung Y-scan (buffer) replacement boards?

Again, to help visualize the board differences, I wanted to post pictures of the backside of the boards. My original board is on top. Also, should I be concerned with the board I received having a white residue on the back side? Is the white residue a sign of the board being used?

Thanks again for your help. I really appreciate it.

White residue is from one of two things, usually left over flux from manufacturing, or glue from where it was attached to pads on the back of a TV. If the part is direct from Samsung it should be in a sealed bag, but it could have been a return or a used part.

The striping on the old board is a design technique to increase the current carrying capacity. More than likely Samsung decided it was not necessary, by either switching to a thicker board process (thus not requiring the additional current capability) or by determining it was ok without it.

If there are no shorts and all connections appear ok, it should be ok to install. Shopjimmy is usually good about knowing what parts work in what sets. I'd trust them.
