    Samsung pn59d550c plasma

Hi, I was watching my Samsung plasma d550 yesterday, it started making a funny noise, and smoking. I've since removed the back to find a burnt area (2 flat caps, and 1 resistor)on the power supply board. See pics. I'm going to order a new board, but want to know what caused this to happen. All other boards, wires, caps look fine. I guess what I need to know is could the x, or y, or another board have caused this? I havent removed the board to look at the back of the board to see if there's damage underneath.

I don't want to buy a new power board only to blow it again due to another problem. I'm thinking maybe a surge caused this, but not sure, I'm a backyard electronic guy, and a tinkerer, far from a tech.
Thanks for any help in advance.

This kind of fault can occasionally occur, when the caps break down under load due to a manufacturing defect or progressively damaged due to power transients.

Did the TV work when it started smoking/making a bad sound...? I'm sure you did not run it for long, but if it did not just go "bang" you might just be able to replace that cap.

I think it sorta flickered, as it happened, it happened so fast to be honest. I shut it off right away. After a few minutes I tried plugging it back in (didn't try to power it on) and it continued to smoke, so I unplugged again, and haven't plugged it back in. Other articles I've read say the ysus board may have done this. What do you think? I'm going to check the back of the PSU board tonight.
      Thanks for the reply

I don't like the white goo covering the pins on that mosfet transistor near the area. I've heard of some of that becoming conductive. But I thought they were using a sew substance that doesnt become conductive.
Did I leave the soldering iron on?

Those blue caps tie one side to ground and work as sort of a choke on the line it's connected to to filter voltage I believe.

In this case the capacitors are used as a snubber across the diodes.

OP, can you read what's printed on the capacitor itself? Should be something like "251K 1KV"

OK the disc caps are R 471k 1ku, the bottom one is badly burnt, I'm capable of changing those out if I can find them. I was just afraid something else on the board is damaged, that caused this, not just a surge. Thanks for all the help

                  Ok, 470pF 1kV. Here:

                  +$3 shipping

I'd replace all similar caps in same area

Upgrading a Samsung ue55nu7096u with logic board from an ue55ru7105k -- good idea?
                    by ohren
I hope this is the right forum to post in despite not technically being a repair, but still a question of swapping boards.

I thought I'd explore the possibility to upgrade an existing working Samsung ue55nu7096u with the logic board (and power board if needed) of a newer model (ue55ru7105k) of the same size and appearance (and resolution). The reason being I'd like the extra inputs of that board including component in, an extra HDMI port and bluetooth. Its panel is broken so I have no use for the board otherwise.

The models launched in 2018 and 2019 respectively....

                    Samsung Power Supply Board BN44-00874F
                    by Nicktronic
                    Hey everyone,

This power supply board is hard to find but there are repair kits available. This board had a blown fuse, FP801S, blown PFC MOSFET, QP802CS and ceramic cap, CP809. I replaced them with parts I already had and tested the rest of the parts that would've come in the repair kit and they were fine. I powered the board up on the bench expecting, in typical Samsung power supply board fashion, to see all my output voltages but, nothing. 0 volts on CNL801, CNM801 and CNT801. The only thing I have is 170vdc on the filter caps. No standby voltage either.

                    Anybody...

Samsung UN65KU6290F PS board blows fuses
                    by valvashon
Samsung UN65KU6290F (May 2017); received from local Buy Nothing group. Was listed as "just went dead" and they wanted it gone. I brought it home, didn't notice anything visually wrong with the power supply board, looked up the cost of a new one and that's about as far as it went. Family was tired of tripping on the foot of the set so I decided to dig in and repair or toss.

Can't believe that I didn't check it earlier but I found the main 8 amp fuse blown. Jumped across it with a 10 amp blade style fuse and you can see that it literally exploded inside the second I plugged...

Help Needed: Samsung UE55MU8000 Dead - Possible Main Board Issue
                    by Asraf Atb
                    Hi everyone,

Im looking for some advice regarding my Samsung UE55MU8000 TV with main board model BN94-11606C. The TV suddenly stopped turning on and now shows no signs of life at all not even the standby light at the bottom.

Initially, I suspected an issue with the PSU, so I took it to a repair center. They tested it and confirmed that the PSU works perfectly, even on other TVs. Based on that, I started investigating the main board.

I disconnected the main board from the PSU, and the backlight turned on, which seems to confirm the main board is the issue....
