Samsung UE46F6500SS bad panel after just 8 months

A neighbor asked me to take a look at his TV that he brought from Germany. He said that at first it would go dim and make some lines and colors over the screen, after the TV had been on a couple hours. This got worse and worse until it became permanent.

The TV has less than 3 months of actual use before it developed the fault.

I feared the worst, and confirmed it. We pulled the set out of its box, powered it up and it immediately started acting up. The patterns looked like a T-Con problem... until i noticed 3 thin lines on the right side of the panel. Having a hunch that this TV would have an upside down panel, i pressed on the bottom right corner of the screen. The flickering went away. Some more pressing on the LCD removed two of the lines. The 3rd one doesn't want to go away but it's at the very edge so it won't bother anyone.

They asked me to leave it like that for now and they'll call me tomorrow if it's acting up again. I'm preparing the thermal pads already, it looks like the first two tabs will need some attention. Still, this is a shame. Less than 1 year old and the panel went bad. And hauling it back to Germany for warranty isn't an option.

So... Friends don't let friends buy Samsung.

Ugh, seems to be an epidemic. I thought that D-series panel failures were bad enough. Saw some E-series too. And now F-series? What future holds for Samsung's H series panels?

My brother's UE46ES8000 has a suspected intermittent panel fault... 18 months old, out of warranty.

If it ain't the panel... it's the LEDs in it!!!

im slightly confused tom so if my ue46c6530 that i tried to fix the other day but found that if i pressed on the BGA on the main board fixed my picture,but my picture fault is exactly the same as most of people pictures there posting but finding out its there panel that is faulty so could my tv be the panel still ?

It's a Samsung. Panels going bad seems to be their game and name. The BGA on yours has failed. But who knows if the panel would last? The C series sets like yours aren't well known for bad panels, but some have been seen. By far the worst are the A series and D series panels.

Update. They eventually took it to a local service center where they explained they would have to "disconnect" the affected area for the TV to work properly.

Most likely they'll just cut off that tab entirely. Oh well... if they'll have a TV with a couple inches-wide black strip on the right side, AND other issues will continue, at least it won't be me getting blamed for it.

They can try that, but many panels drive the gate signals through the left and right drivers... disconnect that, and it isn't going to work correctly...

Not like i care. It isn't my TV.

I have zero tolerance for those who tell me that they're going to employ me to do a repair for them, and then go someplace else. I'm not here to fix someone else's failed experiments.
