Alba 32" VESTEL 17MB62 Switches off on HDMI

Bit of an odd one--Initially the usual diode--one of the row of three, had failed on the PSU 17PW26....

Replaced them and soak tested on DTV for some hours. Tried on HDMI and the set was fine for some minutes...
    --Then it turned itself off.

I turned it back on, whereby it came on to DTV. I switched its sources to HDMI and it stayed on for maybe 5 seconds, then the set switched off--again.

It'll run happily all day on DTV, but will not run for long--seconds in most tries--on HDMI.
Picture etc is perfect and so is sound when the HDMI is working before the set shuts down.

The set appears to work OK when switched to HDMI--With NO HDMI Input, but as soon as it has input--it shuts down some seconds later....

    Any ideas....?

Re: Alba 32" VESTEL 17MB62 Switches off on HDMI

I have an RCA LED24B45RDQ that when I select HDMI it goes to a black screen then shuts down.

I checked all the voltages I could and they all seem to be with in spec, so either its a bad controller chip or a eeprom issue. All other inputs work great. I have been using it as a monitor (VGA) for months now.

      Could be corrupt software.
From the service menu, you can an NVRAM download, and then upload files again to TV.
(Forget the option - post a picture if unsure. It's one of them. You need an empty USB stick, it copies files off onto the stick for flashing a new TV with.)

        Hi Tom,
Not sure what you mean there......

Plug a blank stick into set surely the F/W will be the same as it has now--which may--or may not--be suspect....

        Any procedures around to follow....?

It will copy off the firmware and flash it again.
This can help fix flash degradation (flash memory may enter "phantom states" if has not been written in a while, due to heat causing charge loss.)

Ah--so what you're saying is the set has a sorta hard-copy of F/W and another Operating-copy that it uses day to day....?

Ok, Ive accessed the service menu, gone down to 'USB Operations' and with a Blank stick plugged in it blinks quickly summit USB, then back to the service-menu.

Does the stick need to be in some particular format? I think this one is FAT16, cant remember....

Needs to be FAT32 & completely blank.
Check the files after before uploading

No second copy, but it should fail if checksum bad.

So you will have to retry until it passes.

                  Ah--OK.

Here's what I did. As I couldnt get That to work, I did a 'factory-reset' anyway, and let the set go through all the usual first-time installations.

I'm currently playing via HDMI and its been OK --So Far! Pushing 10 minutes now......

Interesting in the Menu it lists Time Of Use--Not In HOURS, but in MINUTES!
--Are they saying something to us about its expected reliability, that it has to be measured in Minutes LOL!

--This one has done 89450 Minutes of use!--Equates to 1,490 Hours....

Most of the 25-4's I fixed have minutes ranging from 100,000 to 200,000... which is terribly short. But people keep buying them, so what can you do...

Well--To be honest--You Cannot Blame Them--They DONT KNOW what they are buying!

Last set they had was an Alba, set before That, Technika, and before that, Hitachi The new one a Sharp, one after that'll be a Bush--

And ALL THE SAME VESTEL CRAP! Set LOOKS bit different, they'll ask you--how can it be the same.....

How are they supposed to know....

Set is still working on HDMI, not a blink or issue with it at all.....

                        by Yrouel
I have this tv for which I'd like to enable HDMI CEC (EasyLink as Philips calls it) if possible.

The CPU/SoC should support it and I found about the possibility of customizing the TV behavior/functionality with the hardware and software profiles.

I also got serial access to the TV through the SCART connector (side note how do you dump the firmware through that port?)

I'm attaching everything I got about this TV: A zipped folder with various material like the profiles, a log of the boot process, a picture of the service menu, etc.; the service manual...

                        by aliougm
I have problem with my AVR(Marantz SR4003) HDMI board issue. I connect to my TV but screen color distorted, see attached picture.

                        Connection as below:
                        Set-top box HDMI output >AVR 3 HDMI input/one HDMI output>HDTV HDMI port
If I bypassed AVR then HDTV screen color be good.

I take out HDMI board from AVR and check services manual the schematic shown the HDMI signals path:
                        3 HDMI input port > SIL9185 chip(HDMI switch) > SIL9033 chip(HDMI receiver) > SIL9030 chip(HDMI transmitter) > HDMI output port

                        Alba CBB16 replacement switches
                        by ezenia
                        Hello,

I've been given an Alba CBB16 radio to look at. The issue was no sound from either speakers when switching to the radio. They'd just be some buzzing/static. I did some troubleshooting and found that if I mess with the switch in certain ways, the sound cuts in and out on the right channel speaker. It'll go from quiet with some static/buzzing to really loud and clear depending on how the switch is moved. This told me that the radio at least has an issue with this switch.

The switch appears to be broken on the inside causing a poor connection. I tried cleaning it...

LG LCD TV picture comes on intermittenly using hdmi port. The sound is on permantly. The hdmi ports looks fine and soldered in securely. The 3.4v coming to the main board is not present(not sure if will affect the hdmi port or where that voltage goes.)The hdmi cable is fine because it works on another tv.The ceramic caps connected to the hdmi controller ic is reading 39 ohms.Could the hdmi controller ic be faulty(feels very warm to touch). The RCA jacks work normally .Thank you in advance for your assistance..
