Re: Samsung UN46EH6000 LED ERROR Codes

OK I thought I would try something else...

When I put 20.8V at the "front" of the LED strip, I get 6.2V at the midpoint of a whole strip..

When I put 20.8V at the "front" of the LED strip that has been pulled from the array, I get 16.8V at the other end..

Not sure if that means anything, but.....

That's awesome! I'll try that now...

I guess now you are down to test each individual LED and find the bad ones.

Re: Samsung UN46EH6000 LED ERROR Codes

Unfortunately, my little redneck battery tester thingy is not very reliable... I am going to dig around my shop tomorrow and see if I can find a 3V wall wart to use..

Until then I am going to operate under the assumption that I, at the very least, have to replace the one right side half-strip...

Thanx for all the help and replies.. Even if this doesn't pan out to fixing the TV, I learned a helluva lot..

And THAT'S a win, no matter how ya slice it...

            DING!!! DING!!!! DING!!!!

I think I found the problem.

A big black burn in the middle of one of the LEDs on the right side half-strip that didn't function..

So, we now why THAT one doesn't work..

Like I said above, I am going to operate under the assumption that the left side strips are good, I am just missing something on powering them up...

Replacing one half-strip is going to run me about $25.. Worth it if I only have to replace one..

Not so much if I have to replace 7...

Anyways, thanx again... I'll follow up when the replacement comes in..

EDIT: Is there a trick to snapping these LED covers back into place??

Great news, how are the other LEDs, any of them showing brown tint for the heat?
It is so sad that the LED is supposed to be an improvement from CCFL which required high voltage to operate, but they cut down on the LED design by not using proper heat management, so many of these TV with LED backlights are failing a lot.

^ one would think, I believe the huge push for manufactors to go LED is environment preservation CCFL and EEFL are pretty toxic.

Wonder if those LED shields are causing them to die premature due to best capture?

CCFL and EEFL bulbs contain a SMALL amount of mercury. About 0.02g per TV. Eating three tuna sandwiches releases more mercury into the environment than a 32" TV contained.

Actually LED TVs are better environmentally because they require less coal power to operate... more than any mercury saved from the bulbs!

I am convinced far more damage is done to the environment by dumping ~15kg of electronics, metal and plastic, than a few milligrams of mercury ever would, or even considering the extra power used by the display.

True, but here in the states things we do never really make sense, rest of the world thinks we are crazy!

You are right about the power consumption LED/CCFL.

One thing that this project (and the Westinghouse project before) taught me was that breaking a TV down to it's bare components wasn't nearly the horror I thought it was going to be..

But then it hit me today..

These were LED TVs. My only experience before was with LCD laptop displays and those were a nightmare..

How does breakdown of an LCD compare to the breakdown of an LED??

                        Anyone have any firsthand experience??

                          It's roughly the same.

The only real difference is there are fluro bulbs in the panel instead - these are quite thin and can potentially be damaged if you are careless.

I seem to remember from the LCD laptop display that there were like a half dozen different mylar sheets. That's what frustrated me so much about that...

In this latest project, there was the glass display, a single mylar sheet and a think white plastic diffuser and that was it..

Well, I'll tackle an LCD next and see

                            Thanx again...

It's worth noting there is no difference between "LED" TVs and LCD TVs, they both have LCD panels, but one has LED backlights and other has CCFL backlights.

Picture wise, virtually no difference (maybe slightly brighter), energy saving is better.

                                Referring to the attached pic..

I touched the 16v to the points indicated by the boxes...

On the Green points, all the LEDs to the RIGHT of the box lit up fine.. The LEDs to the LEFT of the box did not light up...

Except for the one red box on the right. No LEDs lit up at all...

Touching the 16v on all the boxes on the left.. No LEDs lit up...

Apparently, the one strip on the right side is bad.. Just to confirm, I pulled that entire strip off and tested them individually. Still no joy..

But I find it hard to believe that all the strips on the left are bad..
The reason the left strings don't work when tested is because the connector on the end that accepts the right string of LEDs acts as an open circuit. You need to short the pins in that connector or test both strings together with 42V.

Well, unfortunately a sad ending.I got in the new LED strip.. I tore down the TV again and installed the strip.. When I went to put on the actual picture glass, I had torn one of the cellophane connectors completely off the glass..

I didn't handle that very well and ended up sweeping a million glass shards off the floor..

So, this one was a bust.. But, at least I have a working set of LEDs... At least I think they are working.. The TV might have been slammed down on the counter a few times.. things are a bit fuzzy...

Anyways, thanx for the assists.. At least I learned alot..

Oh dear, that sucks. LCD panels are very delicate, so you must be careful to avoid damaging the tab bonds.
