Re: Samsung UN46EH6000 LED ERROR Codes

Looking at the bottom side of the board, I can see that the connector for the LEDs are setup for driving ONE LED string (only has one boost converter circuit, Q9102, D9102, L9101, C9110) so if one LED is open circuit, then you will not see any LED flash on at all.
You can test each LED using 2 AA batteries connected in series feeding in to 100 Ohm resistor to limit the current to power up each LED.

OK, so it's like an old-style string of christmas lights... If one bulb is bad, NONE work...

      Right???

Extrapolating from that (bear with me, this is all new ) than I can assume that ALL strips must be populated with working strips or none will work..

In other words, I can't put just one in for testing purposes as they all have to be in and they all have to be working..

      That sum things up???

See updated post 21 on how to rest each LED. Anode is Positive.

Whooaaa That sounds like a fun project!!

Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop drinking..

What the hell.. It's a nice TV and definitely worth the effort...

So I test each individual LED (not strip) and the LED that DOESN'T light up indicates that the entire strip is the culprit..

          That sum things up???

Since they are all in series, one LED open = no light.

If the converter is current-mode driven (not sure, but probably is), then it would be possible to short out the bad LED for a test. Still, wouldn't try this unless I was certain...

Re: Samsung UN46EH6000 LED ERROR Codes

OK, got the TV disassembled again...

Got the battery testing device rigged up. It ain't pretty, but it works... 87ohm is the closest resistor I could find here at home..

Of course, there is a problem..

There doesn't seem to be any way to access the connections of the individual LEDs.. The backing has a cover...

                I see two possibilities...

Strip the backing off the LEDs and use the connections (if available)....

Or pump up the juice and test the entire half strip (6 LEDs per) from the half-point connections ...

I am not knowledgeable enough to know the pros and cons of either course, beyond the obvious....

                Anyone??

That is preference. For me I'd test each LED string first, then concentrate on the string that doesn't work. Other's like to test each individual LED. Could be one string or LED, also it could be more than one. Sometimes you are "forced" to do a certain way, because you don't have a proper adjustable voltage with current limiting power supply to light up a whole string, or the proper voltage dropping resistor... etc. One has to make use with what you got at that time.
Onsemi makes an NSI45020 20ma constant current LED driver. It is very small, but the input voltage can be up to 45V DC and it will current limit perfectly to 20ma, exactly what one LED wants. I use it for incandescent to LED conversion in dials, meters etc. You could use any DC power supply that has more than 6V or so and have a perfect LED driver power supply to test individual LED's without worrying "it's gonna blow"!

                    Awesome info. Thanx

One question though. Would the 6V+ Power Supply work if I am going to test the half-string (6 LEDs) as a whole???

Or would I need something beefier??

                    Thanx again..

                      6 LEDs in series = ~3.5V/LED = 21V needed to test

OK, found a wall wart that did not blow anything up... It's rated at 12v, but the meter says it was putting out 16v..

                        Referring to the attached pic..

I touched the 16v to the points indicated by the boxes...

On the Green points, all the LEDs to the RIGHT of the box lit up fine.. The LEDs to the LEFT of the box did not light up...

Except for the one red box on the right. No LEDs lit up at all...

Touching the 16v on all the boxes on the left.. No LEDs lit up...

Apparently, the one strip on the right side is bad.. Just to confirm, I pulled that entire strip off and tested them individually. Still no joy..

But I find it hard to believe that all the strips on the left are bad..

It's very important that your power supply be limited to a low appropriate current, so use a resistor ~220 ohm in series with the power supply output.

Added a 220ohm resistor in series..

Other than a dramatic drop in the brightness of the LEDs, there was no change from the previous 2 attempts...

That's good, just need to see them light up, don't want to burn them out.
Is the polarity perhaps reversed for the left strips?

According to the labels, there is no inversion. The "upper" track is '-' and the "lower" track is '+' all the way across..

But I just discovered something new...

I get continuity from the left connector to the midpoint connector on the '-' only..

There is no continuity on the '+' connector from the left to the midpoint. No continuity at all...

Since you don't have a current limited power supply you don't want to use a power supply that has more V output than the LED string. You just want to light them up without blowing something up, using something you already have. That 16V power supply is perfect for that. 3.3Vx 6=19.8V
Using the 16V power supply you would still get 2.7V for each LED on the string and it would light up, not full brightness, but who cares... you just want to see them turning on.
Either there is a short or an open on the left side of the LEDs... just where... that's gonna be the fun part to figure out. So far you are doing good, don't worry!

I'de feel a lot more comfortable if at least ONE of the left side strips were working... But having them ALL dark could indicate that they ALL are bad.. Or that something further up the line is the issue...

Those plastic LENS for the LEDs are snap in place, you should be able to remove them so you can get to the LED's to test each LED.

                                            Hi everyone!
I have a Sony KD-65A1 TV with a fault – 4 red LED blinks. After disassembly and visual inspection, I found that the G76 power board and DKA board had been replaced. It is also possible that TCON was replaced, but I am not sure – there are a few marker marks that could be factory-made.

Based on assumptions, the previous service attempted to solve the issue by replacing potentially faulty components. I decided to investigate further, found a service manual, and figured out a way to power up the power supply unit autonomously and put the OLED panel and...

My Samsung UE75TU7020k lights up fine when one of the ribbon cables are disconnected from the main board, lights stay on but not getting half a picture, I do the same with the other ribbon and put the other one in and lights stay on but not getting half a picture. The standby light flashes 2 times then reboots then it then tries to come back on again and just keeps looping until I take either one of the ribbon tables out (doesn’t matter which one I take out it stays lit when either one is out). I’ve tested the backlights but all working with none shorting out, I’ve replaced the main board...

Hi please some assistance with my Samsung UA55NU7100 that is stuck in reboot.
I've read the post by Itelite on a Samsung UA65NU6900 with the same problem but this main board is different and doesn't have the 25v VGH voltage which was the problem that he had.

There is no legend indicating voltages on the socket/ cable going to the main board just a link marked 11.80 volts. This voltage reads 12.71v. Pins 3 to 9 also 12.71v. Pins 2,6,8,10,11 & 12 all 0.0v. Pin 1 fluctuates 3.01 to 0.0 volts and pin 4 fluctuates 3.25 to 0.0 volts.

The cpu gets very hot after 10...
