    Damaged Plastic film on Plasma Glass front panel

    Anyone had this--how did you cure it...?

    Is it possible to remove the plastic film, and if so--what did you use?

    Ah--well, A Stanley-knife blade held in a Mole-wrench, WD-40 and various other solvents has shifted it....
    --The fairly thick plastic layer had its revenge on me by slicing my knuckle as it curled off the screen--didn't even feel it, but claret everywhere!

    Stripped the plastic film off the outside that had a very wide scuff/break with jagged edges.--Looks like some kiddie had fun with a knife....

    Then used WD to soften the gum, the blade to remove the majority of it and solvents to dissolve what was left.
    --Seems that these 'implosion-screens' (CRT Terminology) in front of the actual plasma panel are coated both sides with plastic--probably to add strength, but also Very easily scratched and damaged.....

    Now just need to fix the buffer-board fault!

      I imagine the plastic is there to hold the glass in place if it is shattered. There is no risk of a plasma screen imploding, but maybe a kid could cut their hand on broken glass from the TV?

        Problem

        This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

        I got this set for very cheap, it works perfectly but the catch is that the protective coating was damaged. About 45% of the screen had a green tint, you can see exactly where the layer changed colors to a blueish tone (that actually makes everything green).

        "Ok, that's probably just the anti-glare layer" - I thought. So using a microfiber cloth and automotive metal polish I was easily able to turn it into a nice mirror.

        Unfortunately, the damage was beyond this layer and everything still had a horrible green tint. I initially...

        LG 50PA6500 Plasma TV damaged after a power spike
        by tofik
        Hello, I have an LG 50PA6500 Plasma TV, purchased new in 2012.
        Unfortunately plasma is not working at all after a power spike.

        Qucikly tested the PSU and voltages seems to be okay, when eveything is disconntected from the PSU I got:
        VS = 200-206 / actual = 205 V,
        VA = 55 / actual = 54.9 V,
        M5V = 5.2 / actual = 5.19 V,

        17 = 17.24 V,
        5.2 = 5.19 V,
        STDBY = 5.19 V,
        ERROR_DET = 4.8 V - does it mean PSU is damaged? the rest of the voltages seems to be fine.
        what's your opinion about the PSU?

        Also I just...

        What parts can be salvaged from a plasma with a damaged display panel?
        by SurrealMustard
        I recently found myself the proud owner of a later-model Samsung plasma (the PN59D7000 for those keeping score at home) whose panel was, unfortunately, damaged in transport. I'm now preparing to part it out, but am curious as to whether or not any damage would have come to any of the components by attempting to power it up with the panel being broken. I read in one Avsforum thread (for whatever that's worth 😂) that the "scan driver boards" (by which I assume he means buffer boards) could be impacted by doing so. Is that actually the case? If so, since I don't intend on selling bad...

        PANASONIC TX-P42X10Y Plasma TV damaged after a power spike
        by tofik
        Hello, I have an PANASONIC TX-P42X10Y Plasma TV, purchased new in 2009.
        Unfortunately plasma is not working at all after a power spike. Standby LED is not even working.

        I did some quick tests, YSUS + ZSUS MOSFETS and IGBT's are free from shorts, diodes on these modules seems to also be fine, buffer board is free from shorts as well.

        Anyway I focused mainly on the PSU, did some voltage tests with the results as below, I attached them on the photo (also please see attached PDF with the SERVICE MANUAL for this model, page number 43).

        I understand...
