    E552VL 0500-0507-0790 Clicking.

Ok First off I have the same TV in this previous thread.

    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showth...ghlight=E552VL

But here is My Difference. When I got the TV upon powering the cord it would light the Vizio emblem amber push the power button and it would let out a Fast Buzz Pulse from Relay L802. Then CLICK the set Powers off.

I Did the board by board disconnect. to No Avail.

But here is the weird thing After poking around the PS board a Bit I put pressure to the back of the relay and the Ticking Subsided and the set powered on! worked for a while! LIGHT BULB! Bad Solder! So I did some solder tune up on the relay leads and anything else that Jumped out at me! Bingo she fired right up! So with hopes of giving this fine unit to a family member I put a Blu-ray in repeat and let the TV go. I thought I was in the clear. NOPE I came home tonight to the TV still working but the L802 relay is Buzzing like mad.

after one by one disconnecting the leads same story it clicks slow then fast them powers off. with the main board disconnected I Jumper the 5V to PS ON pin the L802 relay starts to let out a steady TICK TICK TICK and nothing else powers up. the Tick is less frequency that the Buzz it has when the back light lights up.

Am I safe to assume the PS just needs to be replaced or do any of you have an idea what I need to test or replace on the PS? Is this common of a bad component that I just cant see Caps look fine and No Hot spots on the board.

When it was working The picture was clear as a Bell everything looked good sound was perfect.

Thanks In advance. again the pics in the other thread are identical to my tv. I can post close ups if anyone would like.

Did you locate a P.S. schematic? Got a good pic of board that clearly shows the part#?

'L802' L = INDUCTOR, not relay, so please show us the pictures of YOUR boards.
L802 is PFC INDUCTOR, same for L801.
RL1 is the relay on the power supply board.

I don't think that Vizio has schematics.

Power supply board is made by DELTA, so DELTA will not allow VIZIO to publish the SCH for the board.
What you can do is to look up the spec sheet of the ICs which will tell you what they are and how to use them, then you just trace out the connections.
The board has Standby power supply: IC900, Q905.
              PFC Voltage Booster: IC801, Q801A, Q801B, D803, D807, D809.
              12V/24V Power supply: IC601, Q601, Q603.

Budm I guess I am over my head.... Should I just order a Good board? I mean what are you suggest I do? as far as voltages to test for or a path to follow? is there something allowing unclean voltage to the inductors or something what would make the inductor Click and Hum ? I swore it was clicking like a relay Sorry for being such a Noob..... But I want to learn I hope I am not frustrating anyone.

                    Re: E552VL 0500-0507-0790 Clicking.

Clicking and humming form PFC Inductor is not normal.
Is the PS_ON signal from the main board steady? The RL1 relay should click on.
When you jump 5VSTBY to PS_ON, the PFC Voltage booster will kick on which then you should see the DC Voltage on the main filter cap to jump up from 160VDC to >360VDC, at the same time the 12V/24V will also be turned on.
You will not see any backlights until you jump the 5VSTBY to the BL_ON pin (I do not remember which one of the 'A', 'B', or 'C' pin is the BL_ON pin), so do not worry about the backlights right now.
You may be better off with new board.

BTW, you can disconnect the cables to the backghts inverter board to see if the TV will power up OK, you just will not have backlghts.

I did that as stated above I did the board by board disconnect and the symptom was unchanged.

The power on signal, is steady? If it is not, then the mainboard is the fault.

Just the mainboard has to be disconnected from the power supply.

I think you mean the main board must be connected to the power supply to check the PS_ON signal (as I mention to check in post 7) which is generated by the main board to feed the power supply board. If the PS_ON is going up and down then the power relay will click on and off.

With the main board uuhooked and 5v jumpered to ps on it just cycles on and off with the board hooked up the voaltage to the ps on voltage is constant till the board times out. Is that what you mean?

NO! I just walked back out an Verified this. When I turn the set on RL1 Clicks. the Hummm Starts everything Loads and CLICK RL1 Clicks off. I PROMISE YOU the L802 Inductor is where the Hum comes from. That being said. I just Jumped the 5V to the PsOn TICK TICK TICK From L802. Jumpering to PsOn and the A Terminal Lights the Backlight. when the back Light comes the Tick tick tick turns to the High Frequency Hummm that I have noted. That Hum remains when ever the back light is lit and the Main board is not even hooked up. and the sound is coming from L802. the relay comes on and stays on as it should. I even left it jumped only thing getting hot is the Inductor but not terribly hot like its going to burn up it. I have no idea why its making noise I now understand its not a Relay As I mistakenly called it out as.
