I have a rear projection tv with a color problem. Does anyone know what would cause this?

Yes, its the light engine that needs replacing, the fault is that the optical filters are discolored (burnt) from heat and possibly poor ventilation as the fans get pluged with dust.

I do not recommend replacing, too costly.

I own a Hitachi 50HK6100U with a display fault. After some troubleshooting, I've found that removing one tcon cable produces a clear image on the side still connected. Removing the other tcon still provides display output; however, this is a heavily distorted image. With both cables connected, only the top ~25% of the screen provides display output which is still distorted. It's only when both are connected that most of the screen no longer provides output.
