    Samsung HP-S4273X/XAA Vertical Pixelation/Lines?

    Hi all!
Neighbor had this Samsung plasma in her bedroom and asked if I wanted it.
First plasma I've ever had/been given that wasn't new/working and since it's winter and I love a challenge, I figured I'd see what I could do with it.
BTW you guys/gals are awesome on this forum!!
So much help and no snide/rudeness that you find on some forums. Great place.

    Model: HP-S4273
    Model Code: HPS4273X/XAA
    Type: CD42P7
    PDP Module #: S42AX-YB02

Problem: See Pic. Vertical pixelated lines (wrong term probably) They all do move and it's as if the tv is scanning as you can see the vertical passes it makes.

The TV powers up just fine and stays on.
    The sound works very well.
I can cycle through inputs on the back as well as the side just fine.
I attached my PS2 to both areas and all of the sound is there.
My Xbox360 was attached to the HDMI and same thing. Sound is fine.

When I hit the source button (tv or remote) it does flash to the blue no signal screen (as if you had just turned it on) for a moment. It goes to the blue screen (fully) and then I get this screen within seconds.

The menu doesn't show up either.

Thank you for any assistance you provide!

Possible logic board or Mainboard failure. Please post photo of the entire back side of your plasma panel with the insides exposed so that someone can direct you better on what boards to test.

    Thanks and Welcome!

Have a look behind the main board, the control board is usually there. You want to put that in "test mode" to see if you get proper test patterns or not. That will indicate which board has bad processing.

Thanks! I just need basic stuff for that, correct?
a HD jumper, soldering iron, some resistors and the remote and just follow the tutorial on the forums?
I'll do that in the a.m. and let you know what happens.

thanks again guys for the fast response.

            Re: Samsung HP-S4273X/XAA Vertical Pixelation/Lines?

            Good morning.
I disconnected the LVDS cable and put a jumper over pins 3&4 on the 4 pin block.
Turned on and screen was black with random color pixel flashing. Had to darken the room (of course) and really concentrate to catch them.
It's a mix of white/green/blue/red pixels. One pixel at a time.
Only occurs in the middle third of the screen.
I'd say 2-3" on either side of the Samsung logo and power button.
            Goes from bottom to top.

Same thing with sound and inputs.
PS2, Xbox360,back of the tv and side input panel.
The light is green on the board that has the side inputs on it.

            Hope that gives enough info..

            Thanks again for any help!

              Re: Samsung HP-S4273X/XAA Vertical Pixelation/Lines?

With the symptoms above, is that board dead, or do i need to rotate through boards to check? Would a fuse cause this or is it a larger prob?

Thanks in advance for the help! Wife is pushing me to "fix it or get it out of the house".
Which means I'd just do a teardown and part it out (not the boards) and keep the pcb and caps for my tub full of parts.

couldn't edit it, so had ot make another post.

The fan on the mainboard kicks on when you power the tv on but stops a few seconds later.

Are you sure that you are jumpering the correct pins ? Try 1-2 or even 1-3 or 2-4 if that doesn't work. I have a Sammie here that has a 6-pin jumper block and needs 5-6 jumpered for test patterns.

I took an HD jumper from a working HD and the pins are numbered on the board.

the jumper must have been junk...I just put another one on and i'm getting the color and b/w test patterns now. l should have done that in the first place. Being in the IT industry for years, should have known.

So are the patterns good or are they tainted with lines too?

it's all nice and clear like it should be. the blue/red/green solid are bright. The black to grey gradient/swiping test (vertical/horizontal/corner to corner) is smooth.

                        Main board or LSDV cable?

It's nice to see solid colors for now.

                          Most likely (99%) main board.
1% chance it's still the control board. If patterns were bad when you tested it, it would have been 100% control board.

should I just replace the board or dig deeper as far as inputs/tuner etc..?

This is my 2nd broken TV I'm trying to fix and haven't been able to figure out... currently going without any working TVs so am hoping to be able to fix one..

This Samsung PN50B430P2D Plasma has this big block of vertical lines which will fade in shortly after turning the TV on. The lines will sometimes flicker a bit or fade in/out and sometimes it just stays present. The length of time it takes them to appear varies, sometimes its a few minutes and other times it appears immediately after powering on.

I have attached an image of the TV with these bars displaying....

                              by Stanley1843
Hello, I have a screen in where sometimes when I open it pop-up vertical multicolor lines (I would say the most of them are green). If I tun off and turn on the screen the lines dissapear or if I leave open the screen after approximately five minutes the lines gone. I measured the below voltages on the main PCB and on the T-CON board and the voltages are the same when it doesn’t display the vertical lines and when it displays the vertical lines. Also, I cleaned all the connectors very good with IPA. I moved back and forth the connectors and the COF tabs but the vertical lines didn't displayed...

I posted about this previously but didn't get any response, and I have some troubleshooted a bit so I have more info.

The screen is full of horizontal "gaps" or lines that distort the picture badly, and after about 10 seconds of powering it on the screen starts to fill with red vertical bars that take on the horizontal pattern. After the screen filled with the red bars, they instantly vanished and then slowly started to reappear. I initially thought it was tab bonding failure, but after getting down to them and pressing each one I find zero change in the picture. I went...

Thin stable coloured vertical lines on Samsung UN65NU6900FXZC come and go
                              by polaro
                              Greetings,

I've bought a used Samsung UN65NU6900FXZC LED TV. It worked fine for some time and then developed, at first, a single very thin (1 pixel) vertical stable blue line, from top to bottom, close to the left edge of the screen. Now it's 3 lines on the left. When I connect HDMI sources the number of the thin lines grow. After disconnecting and cold discharging I am back to 2 lines. The lines disappear at a rate of 15-20 minutes per line. So it does not look like a damaged LED panel. Any advice? Thanks...
