I think at least in RI, Craigslist has been taken over by greedy people, that cant even fix a tv never mind watch one. They buy them to sell back to us people that need them for income, At a crazy price. I don't need a middle man just a fair chance at getting a set to fix for a profit. So My question is should I buy every tv on CL , and out bid them, or should I just pick, and choose like I have been doing?

Re: Craigslist
Moore's law is alive in consumer TVs. Every year, TVs get bigger and cost less. I believe many consumers do not pay for quality TVs instead shopping for size/cost ratio.
In Canada, I see a $10/inch relationship. That is, a 32 inch TV costs around $300 and a 50 inch TV costs $500. Obviously, quality, name brand, etc varies greatly. With the Black Friday/Christmas sales season coming up, it wouldn't surprise me to see Wal-Mart sell a 50 inch TV for $399 or less.
Buying broken TVs to repair and resell is very difficult way to make a living given the above. For me to buy a 50 inch TV on Craigslist, it would have to be in the $200 or less range. Why? Because I get no warranty from the seller, I don't get to "return it" despite what the seller says.
So if you buy a broken 50 inch TV for $50 and it requires a $50 part and 2 hours of your time to troubleshoot, fix, test, advertise, meet the buyer, etc that leaves very profit.
Unless you get your TVs for free, the profit margin can be very thin.
You might be better off trying to get free TVs and sell them for parts to maximize your income?--- begin sig file ---

Re: Craigslist
Another reason for the $200 or less comment above is I have seen some of the "repairs" done by first time DIY people on this forum.
Some of it is downright scary and many people use incorrect parts or under rated parts or counterfeit parts (unknowingly). The chance of a repaired Craigslist TV burning down your house is not zero.
When I repair my own stuff, I burn everything in extensively and don't take any shortcuts or "hacks".
Note: I'm not suggesting you are doing shoddy work. I'm just sharing my unbiased observations after a few years of participation here.--- begin sig file ---

Re: Craigslist
Some people are just silly around here - I've seen them selling faulty 50" 6-7 year old LG plasmas for £150 - they really have no idea. However, most are sensible and have reasonable prices. I also usually give warranties on the TVs sold myself - although I suppose it's a private party transaction so I'm not actually required to do this. Please do not PM me with questions! Re: Craigslist
I don't usually post my repaired sets on CL, WAY to many flakes.
I do put them on offer up, seems to be a little better then CL but every now and again I get flakes there too.
I have been having a hard time moving anything. I have working 15 panels, all but 4 are 1080p and most are 40"+
For example, I have 2 matching Sammy 40" LCD panels I have them at 165.00 each. Not a single bite.
I have my 46" panny TH-46PZ80U at 350.00 obo, got a few interested parties but no follow through.Last edited by Shinju; 11-05-2014, 11:30 AM.Comment

Re: Craigslist
I get one every now and then off Craigslist, most come from my carefully cultivated recycler connections. I have never paid more than 50$ for a dead set, with new prices so low now it has been difficult to make any money off the ones I fix.Liberating magic smoke one part at a timeComment

Re: Craigslist
Its a Sceptre though, new it was only 399.99 and I don't have a stand for it. If I did I would add on another 40-50.
I have more to sell just have these listedSeems like TV's with no stands are impossible to move. I have a Panny TH-42PZ700U with no stand, Amazing TV and great picture but I don't think it will move so I will put it in the room and sell the 32" 1080p Toshiba.

by eccerr0rWell, due to my grid tie inverter not accepting high voltages, and the fact that the lions in my solar panels are 36V (72-cell) I think I need to stick with 72-cell.
However I have a few smaller panels that are 36, 32, and two 30-cell. The 36 and 32 together run at 75% efficiency (and subtract more with additional inefficiencies) when running in parallel with the 72-cell panels. The kicker is that the two 30s... generate 0% power when connected in parallel(!)
So now what to do with these small panels?
I could sell them...
Or I could shim them.... -
