    Vizio GV42L FHD10A

I Recently replaced the backlight inverter capacitors in my free Vizio GV42L FHDTV10A with these NTE capacitors from radio shack:

    http://www.radioshack.com/nte-nev680.../55047309.html

Backlight was strobing like crazy. After soldering in the new capacitors, everything seemed great, However now around 50% of the time I notice that the picture is flickering a bit. I can't tell if it's the backlight or not.

Could this be because of the caps I chose? Or because of my poor soldering ability?

Should I replace the caps with low ESR caps? I don't know much about capacitors in general, a friend just told me the NTE ones would work just fine.

By the way, the TV is an early 2008 model for what it's worth.

    Thanks.

The capacitors you have installed are probably wearing out, so you need to replace them with good ones from e.g. digikey (Panasonic FC/FM/FR, Rubycon YXF/ZLH, Nichicon HD, Chemicon KY/KZE)

The caps I installed have only been in the TV for a little over a month. I've probably used the TV under 10 hours.

Why would they be wearing out?

Regardless do you have specific capacitors you'd recommend for my application?

        Thanks.

Because they are junk RadioShack capacitors which are made for general purpose uses only. On an LCD TV inverter they will be subject to strong ripple current and high temperatures, leading to premature failure.

            How do these look?

'10 PCS PANASONIC CAPACITOR ALUM ELEC, 680UF, 35V, 20%, RADIAL'

            They are Panasonic FC.

I would buy directly from Digikey or Mouser, you may get fake caps from EBAY.

Mouser charge a lot more for small orders. They are good but you can get them from Digikiey with about $3 shipping.

I went ahead and ordered from Mouser, shipping was only $5.

Fair enough, I guess they've changed their policy, it used to be $10 ground shipping under $50 orders, from memory.

                        Update:

I replaced the capacitors with the Panasonic FC's.

At first everything appeared to be just fine, however after over an hour of the TV being on, I noticed a very faint flickering. It is a lot better than before, and probably wouldn't be noticeable unless you were really looking for it.

I will wait a couple of days and see how often it happens, and how severe it is.

                          TV seems 95% normal now.

                          Thanks for the input everyone!

I will start by recapping the power supply, replace all caps except for the big one
