The fault with that board will be the IPM module - the large "chip" (actually a hybrid module, with discrete silicon and a conventional PCB) under the heatsink

It would be very difficult
I would swap -Vy module instead

Ok Tom..
I completed the task of swapping the module..
I used the hot air technique to remove the module without damaging it at all..
I cleaned everything really well and installed the module on the original board as well as possible..remember, I did hack the original board and module up pretty good..(Before I read and researched the hot air technique)
After installing the board and double checking all connections I turned the tv on and got picture and sound..with just the lightest hint of those sparkles (green this time and no red sparkles).
I still had the light part of the picture doing that fade in and out thing going on...and then I saw the longer the tv was on that my picture faded away and left a white screen.
I'm wondering if my "hack job" on the removal of the module from the board the first time may be the reason that the pic faded away...?

Can you check the -Vy on your board and see if it is unstable or not.

Oh...I tried powering up the tv and it shuts itself off in just a few seconds and the red light on the power board comes on so I probably wont get a reading on on anything

I really can't say anything..I did mutilate the board up pretty badly!
I'm probably the cause of the problem now.

Can't get a reading...
It shuts off so quickly I can't get the probes on it to read it...

I've taken the board back out of the set...powered it up and my sound came back.

I'd suggest checking across Vs and GND on the power connector for shorts. To me it sounds like your IPM has failed.

Probably brought on by my mutilation of the board!

Well, I'm going to put the module back on its original board...now that I have the means of doing it without harming anything in the process...

Since I know this "new" board already has a bad IPM I might as well "play" and get some practice in on soldering techniques and swap the IPM from this one to the "new" one and see if anything changes...

I checked Vs and GND on the power connector on the board...I don't get any audible...unless I probe Vs to Vs then I get an audible...

Sorry for the lengthy pause, I had to go to the hospital and stay for a while..heart trying to act stupid on me..

Turns out you were right about the IPM..I checked it again and got an audible...upon inspecting the IPM I found a couple of cracks in the base of it and if you put any pressure at all on it I got the audible..

So, I used it to practice desoldering on it...got fairly well with it and went ahead and removed the IPM from the "new" board and cleaned it up real good and will order an IPM for it...

The patience of Job...

My son brought me a Panasonic TC-P42C2 to look at for him...I'm not sure if he loves me or not..
So I've tried to revive an old thread that was dealing with the same problem...
