Hmm, that sounds more like image retention if it's only black with just the dim glow. That should go away with time.

well its some kind of burn in...and it happens fast..i left it on windows xp screensaver (the one where its all black except for the xp logo which moves to a different location about every 10 seconds...even that ten seconds is enough because after 30 minutes of this there's ghosting of the logo all over the place
      Don't fear the repair...

This is a common issue with LG plasmas. It is known as temporary image retention - it will fade. LG plasmas are the worst for it. Panasonic are much better but they still get it from time-to-time. It's because they are reducing the priming reset energy to save power, the wall charge from previous images is not always fully erased.

err is it just setting everything to max brightness and displaying a white screen?

          for how long?
You don't NEED it but it helps, also you can tune and calibrate these panels before you sell em to make them look good.

Also you can probably download and burn a DVD that has image retention preventing clips or even a pixel shifter.

And yes Torch mode is all TV side settings.

sweet i recapped the other 2 psu's and now i have 3 of these TV's working! one of them has more burn in than the others but its barely noticeable when you're actually watching something. this video seems to help for a bit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wYtEQn1JqOI but it always comes back
