Plasma capacitor discharge time after removing power cord

About how long after power being removed and all cables disconnected from the SMPS board on a Plasma set is it safe to remove that PS to test? Too be sure, what points can be checked for stray voltage that wasn't discharged?

This is a 2010 LG set if that matters.

Depends on whether the fault is causing the main caps to remain charged (Which is quite common in fact!)--in which case, There IS no 'safe' amount of time.

A High Quality Cap can maintain a charge Indefinitely, Certainly hours, often for days or weeks.

Treat ALL PSU high-voltage reservoir caps as Charged, unless you have checked--No Matter HOW long the set's been off.....

Believe me, Over the last 30 odd years, Ive had MANY a huge belt off a cap in various bits of kit--that hasn't seen mains to it for days--I think I'm almost immune now, but still wakes you up!.....

There is no fixed limit. People say an hour but I've had boards retain charge for longer. If you remove the board carefully (hold only the edges, secondary side only) then you may be able to measure the capacitor voltage (primary and secondary.) Discharging with a 120V lightbulb works.

        Ok, thanks.
In the past I have seen some guys just short out the pins which I never did and didn't think it was the greatest idea.
        Your take?

I'd use an ordinary filament light bulb, 100W ought to do it

            Cyberpower 1500AVR UPS repair
            by quickname
I'd like to start out by thanking this forum for providing the info to be able to repair my 15 year old CP1500AVRLCD UPS. Here is all the info I gathered during my trouble-shooting and re-capping.

Like clockwork, I've had to replace the SLA batteries every 4 years. It was about that time and the UPS was acting like it needed new batteries... randomly shutting off with AC present, not being able to charge fully, and poor runtime when AC was removed. So, I replaced the batteries but noticed that it was not charging properly.

I decided to verify that the batteries were...

Gaming Laptop Zephyrus S17 TFT not detected every time !
            by titomno2
            Hi guys,
I post my problem here because I think it could be a capacitor related issue (Asus support on this particular subject is non-existing).
So the computer is a Zephyrus-S17-GX735LXS-26T and the strange behavior is seen.
On cold start most of the time the internal screen is detected and a picture it works fine until shutdown, sleep or deep sleep.
Then the screen won't work for a long period of time.
If I wait 1 or 2 hours it work again most of the time.
When it doesn't work the batterie indicator blink 3 times white stop and the same schematic is repeated...

Panasonic th-42px60en plasma TV takes time to turn on and make clicking noises
            by novak2
            Hello there,

I recently bought a Panasonic th-42px60en plasma TV second hand. The problem is :
The TV takes time to turn on from cold (being unplugged from the night for example), it tries to turn on with the clicking sound, then shuts off, then retries and so on. The TV is still working, just it takes time to boot.

From what I've read it seems to be bad capacitors on the power board, but I just want to see if anyone had the same problem with this TV.

            Thanks in advance.

Adding a clock battery to action camera to retain date&time when changing batteries Campark X25
            by flat-earther
I have a cheap action camera with an annoying trait, every time I change batteries the date & time gets reset and I have to set it again.

To solve this problem I want to add a small internal battery inside it which will keep supplying power to the camera for a while while I change batteries so the date & time is retained.

I have opened the camera and I think there is enough room to add something inside to accomplish this:

The camera is powered by a 3.7V nominal single cell lithium ion battery.
So I need to connect another battery in...

Hey all long time lurker here,

I'm stuck repairing this TV, at first everything works fine, can browse the internet watch somr channels for about one hour (sometimes it's half an hour or more) and then boom it just dies like nothing works no standby light, remote doesn't works, removing then putting back the cord etc. After waiting for quite a while it just keeps working again.

            Things I've noticed

            - When it dies voltages on the output stage of the power board becomes 0v, no 12v no 3v3 (main caps still at the usual voltage) I checked the output caps...
