There's so much copper on the board that my iron wouldn't cut it. I ended up using my air wand and the thing just dropped out the bottom, taking the pads with it. Oops. I think the problem was in that big bga chip with the heatsink on it anyway and I have no way to rework bga yet.
May have been a lightning strike, I've lost a port like that, not burnt but very lucky just that port and not the whole A board, Travelled via antenna, set top box (also no HDMI anymore) then to the Tv

      Re: Panasonic TC-P50C2 No Power

I was thinking that too. I got the TV yesterday and was told it went out the night before. I should check the weather from 2 days ago. Assuming that it really happened then. You never really know. I'll just part this out now. I'm not going to spend $150 on an A board. And I don't have the poles for the base.

I sent the mainboard to Moduslink for repair. I recieved it today and It solved my problem, so the fault was on the mainboard. The tv is working great. Thanks tw2005 for your help.

Any evidence on what they may have replaced?

There were two chips that, I know for sure, were replaced. Look at attached photo.

Good on you. I think that's where we were heading at a guess it was the main IC in the end.

Looks a neat job too. What wty do they give?

Pretty good really, should be enough heat cycles to test the repair. Just think of all the boards that probably got thrown out. i'd love to have a go at hot air, BGA looks very precise work though.

thanks for the feedback, it's always an education

                  cheers

I wonder what the part numbers of those are and how much they actually cost? Looks like a real pain replacing them for a DIYer

Plan on having a reflow oven if you intend to replace them yourself.

This is interesting but, I'm just going to send mine to Moduslink. I'm not gonna try my first experience at that on a tv board. Might cool to try on some scrap board for fun.

Or at least try on a cheap board. Not on one which is about $160 used.
