LG 60PZ550 glows but no picture/sound

Greetings, all, first post. I found my way here trying to find a replacement board for my LG 60PZ550. This TV is only three years old and hopefully can be salvaged.

About a week ago, upon turning it on, the familiar click of a relay could be heard, and the, umm, "TV is off" LED went out (in this particular TV the LED is on when the TV is off ). The screen "glows", like it does when it hasn't "hooked up" with whatever source it's using, but that is all. No sound, no picture, and the TV only responds to commands from the remote (or on the front of the TV) by blinking the LED a few times.

So here's my question: A replacement main board (an assembly of several boards, from what I can tell) is available on ebay for $90. For those of you who possess functioning crystal balls, do you think this is likely to resurrect the TV? My crystal ball is all cloudy, like my TV

It would be possible to tell if the main board is bad in your set by doing a simple jumper test. You will need to remove the cover from the TV and get pictures of the boards inside of it.

Thanks for your quick reply. Finally got the pictures you requested. Sorry about having to be asked, I now notice the sticky that I should have read before I posted. Also I apologize for the quality of that last one, hope it's not so bad it needs to be re-taken.

I really appreciate you folks taking the time to try to help me.

I hope it's not a breach of forum etiquette to bump my own post, but the wife is getting impatient and the board I linked to in my original post is now sold out. Can someone please help with that "simple jumper test" that tom66 referred to?

thanks again for any help anyone can provide. I'd hate to see this TV wind up in the landfill, it's only 3 years old, and besides, I can't afford a new one.

Re: LG 60PZ550 glows but no picture/sound - happy ending

          Hello,
Having seen no activity on my thread for a long time, I decided to buy a new main board via ebay at risk. It arrived, in bubble wrap, with absolutely no ESD protection whatsoever. And it worked just fine. I have a TV again.

I know there are professionals who hang out here, and maybe the old board is perfectly fine, if only someone who knows what they are doing fixes something. If you are such a person, and you think you can earn a few bucks that way, post here and I will ship the old board to you. Shipping is on me, as my small token of thanks for the help you folks provide to perfect strangers.

Thanks guys, for all you do. The regulars here seem to enjoy helping others, and I know you invest a fair amount of personal time doing so. Wanted to make sure you're aware that it's appreciated. Wish I could contribute also, but I'm afraid offering up a free dead PCB is about the best I can do.

          Eric

            Sorry for missing your post!

It's OK to bump a few times on this forum. Lots of people here now, and only a few regulars, including myself.

The particular test involves putitng a wire across the points marked EXT AUTO GEN, and unplugging the LVDS cable, all from the control/logic board.

If the rest of the set is working, a sequence of test patterns will show on the screen .This indicates the main board is bad in almost every instance.

Thanks, good to know. I've written this down and taped it to the back of the TV in case this happens again.

Might want to note: on your set there are no points marked EXT AUTO GEN but you can use the points between resistors R51 and R52 (in white print) on the CONTROL board.

                  Hello Tom
Thank you for the test procedure. My set only glows and nothing but all seem to be ok.. voltages etc..
with your instructions I got the colors to cycle on the screen. Does this mean my main mother board is bad? thank you.
