    Re: samsung LN-T5271F

    Budm,

I took Voltage readings again with the set powered on, now the set is working properly. Black and white confetti on screen and menu pop up. Also have a dvd player connected now that it is working. I found the remote for the DVD player, and was able to play the DVD perfectly with sound and video. I took the voltage readings while the DVD was playing on the TV.

attached is the document with the voltage readings. does this help towards isolating the problem?

    Thanks again

"Black and white confetti on screen and menu pop up." So the menu just comes up by itself? For the menu to come up by itself, the main board has to activate it, bad FRC or T-CON cannot do that. Since when it works, it works fine, I would try tighten all the board's mounting screws since some of them are used for making ground connections to the chassis.

        Budm,

since voltages are similar when the TV is bad and when it's good, can we rule out the PS board?

are there any voltage measurements I can make on the FRC and T-conn to help isolate. I left the TV powered on since yesterday, in case I have to make voltage checks while it's working.

can it be something as simple as a connection problem? I will check all the mounting screws for tight connections.

I'm afraid to turn it off!!!

        thanks,

At this point it looks like to have bad connection some where. Did it ever go out while it is running? or just when you first turn it on then sometimes it just have problem.
We do need to check the voltages on the caps on the FRC, there are many filter caps on the board, I will have to mark some of them that I think they are filter caps.
Since it has been running for many hours, so I do not think the heat is the problem. You may try cooling the FRC board first to see if it will go out, then try the T-CON.

            Budm,

At this point it looks like to have bad connection some where.

maybe the main board to FRC?

Did it ever go out while it is running? or just when you first turn it on then sometimes it just have problem.

Never goes out when it finally powers up properly as long as it remains on.

We do need to check the voltages on the caps on the FRC, there are many filter caps on the board, I will have to mark some of them that I think they are filter caps.

OK, Will look for your information.

Since it has been running for many hours, so I do not think the heat is the problem. You may try cooling the FRC board first to see if it will go out, then try the T-CON.

spray while the set is working? any particular area of the board to spray ?

can a intermittent MAIN board cause this? I will check on all cables and tighten the mounts.

            thanks

Since it does stay on for a long time, but if you shut it down it will not come back up, try heating the main board, the FRC, and the T-CON with hair dryer to see if it will work again. i have been real busy with my FCC compliance testing for the products I am working on, I will try to red line the FRC board test points for you later.

                        Budm,

If I were to replace a board to possibly fix my problem, would the main board be the first one you'd change given all of the tests and info I provided to this intermittent problem?

I hope the exams you took went well.

                        thanks

                            Re: samsung LN-T5271F UPDATED FIXED

Replacing the T-CONN board fixed my problem. the symptoms were BACKLIGHT ok, SOUND ok, NO picture. after troublshooting and with advice by budm, tom66 and a number of other fourmites I was down to either the main board or T-conn board. more researching revealed about 85% of the time with those symptoms, the T-conn was the culprit. I bought a T-conn on ebay for $32. power cycled it about six times and each time the picture came right up.

now I have the bad t-conn. is it worth troubleshooting while I have the set apart on the bench. I'd be willing to try if I had some things to check. I don't have a scope for signal tracing.

old t-conn had a good fuse and 12V on each side of the fuse.

thanks again for all the advice and guidance.
