vizio E470VL tuner hot to touch

i need some opinions about this. I purchased a main board from ebay and installed it. the tv came on and was working good. then i decided to connect an antennae to the 75 ohm input. the input is there but broken and will turn around and around. of course there tv is not getting any signal. while checking the 75 ohm input i noticed that the tuner itself was pretty hot to the touch. my question is would there be a good chance that the tuner being hot would eventually kill the tv? if the customer does not use the antennae input as lots of people do not, i will just instruct them to use the other inputs, HDMI, ect.

I would return it and get one that is fully functional. If something is shorted and drawing too much current, it is quite possible that a component further up the chain could eventually fail. The other option is to just remove the tuner from the board.

the problem is i have been looking for this particular board for over a month now and I finally located this one and it is the only one available. so I will follow your suggestion and remove the tuner from the board. thanks johnboy1313

Are you sure removing the tuner does not generate fault codes since the main processor does not get a response from the tuner via I2C

I was thinking the same thing. so I did not remove it. after checking again it was not as hot as i first thought. it is just really warm, not hot. and it is in close proximity to the large processor heatsink that is even warmer. so at this point i am letting it run overnight and i will see how it is doing in the morning.
