Busta Cap In My Dvd Recorder?

Hello, I've got this piece of crap ilo DVD Recorder model# DVDR05 ZU, which is basically just a Cyberhome 1600 ZU DVD Recorder. This unit probably was functional for a total of 3 months. Although it should just be thrown in the trash and forgotten, I've kept it around with the idea of getting it to work again, or just use the parts for random projects should I throw in the towel. The unit basically *seems* to be functional, by means of powering up, the disc tray still opens\closes, all inputs\outputs still work, as well as the setup and display menus, etc. However the only thing that it won't do is successfully load a disc, it tries to; but eventually will display "no disc". I popped the top off hoping that the DVD burning drive would be compatible w\ a pc DVD Burner. Unfortunately I didn't see anything that'd allow that. While investigating the board & disc drive I opened up the disc support stabilizer cover and loaded a disc and noticed that the laser doesn't appear to completely make it to the inside of the disc, tries to moving out a lil and then spins down, tries again once more and then displays "no disc". I'm not sure if the laser is supposed to be focused in one specific spot, or if it's normal to be slightly refracted; when looking at the laser firing onto my ceiling it was definitely not focused to a point. I also noticed the board that holds the power supply has a cap that looks like it leaked goop onto board. However I dunno if this is truly the case. I included some pics, if anyone who could confirm this has the time to take a peep, I'd really appreciate it. Sorry about the long ass story, I didn't expect my explanation to be this long. Anyhow, thats all for now. If you've read this far, thanks!! -tmt-

The cap is fine, it's only glue holding it down

Be careful with that laser, it's rated as Class 1 just because it is contained completely, when you remove the metal chassi the laser gets a much higher rating

That laser has the potential to be fatal to your eyes.

Try to give the guides for the laser some grease (if it looks like grease is supposed to be there)

And also make sure that they are straight

Check the voltage of each rail,(look at the the marking at the power board connector, it should say what voltage each wire is supposed to have).
      +/- 5 percent is good.

I think the tiny white ribbon cable that connects the laser does not have a good contact. Remove the ribbon cable, clean it with alcohol , and then reinsert it back and fourth.

That is what i do to repair my 3-year old cyberhome that refuses to read disc.

The cap certainly doesn't look bulged or vented. If it had vented from the bottom, you'd expect to see some kind of bulge on the top of the cap and/or it sitting at a weird angle to the board. It could have failed without any physical signs; an ESR meter will show you if the cap is bad or not.

Having said that though, it's a Fuhjyyu so only a matter of time before it does vent
Also, Fuhjyyu usually DO show physical signs of failure. See my avatar pic
You know there's something wrong when you open your PC and it has vented Rubycons...

PS5 Disc Not Supported/ Disc Not Recognized Board Num: EDM-020
          by Junior††

          Good Afternoon fellas,

          Issue:
Disc is showing as not supported when a disc is put in.

Here's what I've done, you can skip this if you just wanna know the question:
          - replaced with a disc drive from a donor ps5 (honestly questionable if this is known to work)
          - reflowed the disc drive connector
-reflowed the chip in question (shown on image)
          - I will say this console was very dusty so it's conceivable that it got so hot that it made the chip joints cold and potentially other things on the board

          Question:
          I...

Onkyo DX-V500 Laser Disc Player - weird SMPS fault
          by dkneyle
This relic from a technology path that came to a dead end (but still has historical interest) was brought in with a dead SMPS, which is based around a MK1210 device. I got it going after a battle. It seems to have a strange design - if it's not getting feedback that the secondary is OK it cause the big FET to go into full conduction and overloads resulting in a blown fuse at best or something worse! I'm using a Dim Bulb Tester (70W/230V) which thankfully has saved the day a number of times whilst repairing.

Now, it loads a CD OK. The motor voltage output (which is built onto the SMPS...

DVR recorder Switching power supply Failure
          by sam_sam_sam
When I originally started with my DVR recorder it had 4 individual switching switching power supply’s that were sh*t so I bought a 7 amp 12 volt switching power supply and modified the output plug and put a four output power supply cable to match the input power supply cable inputs

Which worked for over 14 years until a few days ago when the cameras went dark no picture anymore well it turns out now the switching power supply has stopped working altogether now so I have to troubleshoot what has happened to this power supply more later on today what I found

          This...

Hilti PD30 Laser Range meter Error 276
          by Dannyx
Good day folks.....wow, seems like forever since I posted anything here Still alive and well, thank you I guess you could say I've become more independent and able to work stuff out on my own. This one though goes way over my head and I doubt is fixable, but maybe some bright spark out there has an equally bright idea.

So: my Hilti PD30 laser meter quit on me just the other day. It was working fine, I set it down for a while and when I tried using it again it gave me an E276 and wouldn't do anything else. I tried taking out the batteries, all that standard stuff but nothing...
