    PN64D8000 and Devilish Child

Well I don't know if the child is devilish but he apparently threw one of his toys at the screen resulting in the provided image below.

It looks like the scan ic's are not operating for that portion of the screen yet the image is not black there.

I was wondering if it was possible to deactivate a scan line or two after restoring functionality to that part of the screen. Seems like a shame to gut it if it can be mostly repaired. Make a nice garage tv

It's caused a micro fracture which has fried one of the buffer ICs.
If you deactivate an IC, you will get a black bar in place of the white bar.
You will still have the black spot no matter what you do.

I mean to replace the ic(s) and deactivate the line(s) that drive the fracture so the rest of the pic returns.

oh you mean you want to turn off that horizontal line which has the fracture so it won't effect the rest of the IC itself? Interesting idea, not sure if it is possible or not. I know that each pin on the IC will drive one line on the panel, if you can find which pin corresponds with the fracture and remove it? Don't know if it'll work like that or not.

I guess it'll depend on how big the fracture itself is. Whether its a small pin hole or a bigger crack?

Yes, exactly what I'm trying to ascertain.

Not going to work - as we have found with modern buffers open lines will fry a buffer IC as much as shorts (I am not sure why)
Still going to have that spot on the screen which will probably only grow...

Interesting. I would have though that the line being translucent meant the buffer ic was still active just messed up in another way.

Btw just so I'm clear the black spot was photoshopped on after to show the location of the strike.

According to SM for the hp-t5054 shorted buffer ic lines cause a translucent rendering where n/c cause a line to be drawn black. I know it's a different panel. [CONJECTURE]Maybe the modern failure is that a shorted line shorts all lines together causing translucence ? [/CONJECTURE]

How sure are you? Not questioning your logic here, but I've seen exactly that with some panels when cracked - egg like distortion with some dead lines.

On reflection you absolutely could be right about the circle. Have not seen it first hand and sometimes communications are not the best. Thanks for the heads up.

As it turns out tom and after further conversation with the seller you are correct about the black spot.

As I am not in need of parts from this unit I will leave it alone.

                      Thanks for your counsel.

Macbook 2017 with touchbar (A1706) won't turn on after removing the screen
                        by Ryan.man
Hello everybody! Posting this in hopes somebody has some expertise that leads to a clear path of troubleshooting that saves me a lot of time!

My macbook has the flex cable problem, the one that prevents the screen turning on. Ive been dealing with this for the last 3 years. Last year it went dead and I managed to fix it following youtube tutorials. But my fix wasnt the best, the problem returned a month later. This week, it went dead again. I again tried to fix it.

This time the original cable broke too close to the screen, it can't be fixed without tearing the screen...

iphone XS turns off when press on screen.
                        by smic717394
                        Hi,

I have a iphone XS that came in for a screen replacement, the screen was badly cracked, and inside missing scues, on the back of the screen still the blue protector, the screen was a LCD. So we replaced the screen and all good, installed the screen and we noticed that pressing the screen with a bit of force but not excessive, the phone dies. After plugging the charger it turns back on, but again if you press it it dies. I open the phone again, and I can't see anything major, with the phone open, if I press on the logic board, battery, charging board, or even putting pressure on...

                        Samsung UE55JU6800K half screen dark
                        by Chrissygizmo
Hello everyone, I’ve just been given a Samsung UE55JU6800K smart tv as it had white spots on the screen due to the led lenses falling off. After refitting them & putting the tv back together I thought it was a nice easy fix for a free bedroom tv , then I tried it before screwing the back into place. I realised that the right side of the screen was darker than the other side, I removed the screen again as I thought the backlights had failed but they are fine.
I put the screen back in place & turned it back on . The screen seemed to be ok again but different screens on the same...

Vizio TV M50-C1 reboot cycle and static on screen
                        by spice_disc
I'm currently trying to diagnose and fix my Vizio TV (Model M50-C1). I've tried a number of different basic solutions, but I'm trying to determine if my issue is currently a failing panel, T-Con board, or main board (or something else entirely) and whether or not it is worth my time to fix it. Details of the issue and what I've tried are below as well as why I think it is either a bad panel, T-Con board, or main board.

The Issue: The TV will be on and working fine but after the TV is on for ~5-10 minutes the screen will freeze (with sound continuing) until the TV reboots itself. While...

ipad pro 9.7" blew a SMD component while replacing the screen 🤦‍♂️
                        by ipatch
i have an ipad pro 9.7" (1st gen) A1674 where i replaced the screen, but never attached the screen to the frame/chassis (glued down) due to the ipad being previously dropped so the new screen would never fit in the frame properly. so i need flex/bend the chassis to eventually fix the new screen in properly. so i temporarily just applied blue tape around the edges of the screen to keep it in place. when watching videos with the ipad the screen started flicker, so i though maybe the new quasi cheap amz screen i purchased was going out. so i disconnected then reconnected with power still on,...
