Dynex DX-LCD37-09 Roadside find with intermittent video issues.

I found this Dynex DX-LCD37-09 on the side of the road and at first glance it actually seemed to be in good shape. My brother in law hooked up his laptop into the vga input and declared it to be just fine after getting a good picture. I knew this would be too good to be true, however.

So basically it has a good clear picture and sound most of the time, but intermittently and at random times, the screen goes mostly green lines and black for a bit, then it pops back to normal. So now I understand why someone had an excuse to buy a new TV, and hopefully not another Dynex.

So I thought I would ask here if anyone has seen these particular symptoms before, and if they would have any suggestions. Or if it is even worth fixing. I have fixed plenty of monitors and LCD TV's with bad caps in the power supplies, mostly thanks to these forums.

Here is a video I took of the TV in action. http://youtu.be/hG_jy8Oh8XA

Thanks in advance for any help.

And by the way, I have not actually taken it apart yet, just wanted to see if this is a common problem first. I did locate a service manual at Elektrotanya, though.

I had one recently with nearly the exact same problem as your video. The only difference being that once it cleared up, it stayed clear until you turned it off and let it sit for awhile. My thread is here:

Despite hoping it was a tcon issue, it would seem as though the problem is actually in the panel since a replacement did not change the symptoms. Not even a little.

Definitely panel. A t-con cannot/will not cause that fault.
May be a Dynex brand TV but who made the panel? Wouldn't surprise me if it's a Samsung panel that has failed.

It was a Samsung panel. After I took it apart and so absolutely no visible signs of either bad caps or solder joints, I decided it must be the panel. Oh well no money lost on this one at least! I definitely know from experience I will never buy a Dynex branded anything.

This TV met it's final resting place in the local landfill yesterday!
          Thanks for the advice.
Maybe next time I will find a salvageable unit. So far this year I have found 4 fixable LCD monitors at least.

Just don't buy any TV that uses a Samsung panel. Including Samsung TVs. (Certain Samsung TVs use AUO or Chimei panels which are "OK".)
