That is the high voltage winding, I expect to hear some arcing sound before it goes into shutdown mode. BTW, you need to use 2K Ohm range to check the resistance. It does look like it has been arcing.Never stop learning

in the 2k range i get .000 on the secondary and nothing on the primary. on the 200 range i get 1.5 on the secondary and nothing on the primary.Comment

Just wanted to shoot an update this post. I went ahead and replaced the entire power board as a unit, although I'm pretty sure the high voltage winding as Budm mentioned was the culprit. Once installed...walla! I got backlight coming on, and once all put back together the set has been working since. I wanted to thank this awesome forum and specifically Budm & DGtech for jumping in to assist, couldn't have done it without you guys.Attached FilesComment

Maybe an old thread, but I have a similar issue with a Sceptre I'm working on for a friend. Is anybody still there? I followed this thread and measured voltage output on the board and it's very close to what was in the pic here. The picture is so dark you can't see it unless you hold a flashlight up to the screen, but when you do the picture is fine (where you can actually see the light from the flashlight that is). Any ideas? New to this forum btw. Please be nice. ;-) I've gone to school to work on medical equipment, but I'm a little rusty and haven't worked on these types of units. Thanks in advance! EC10 - 220uf, 35V

I replaced the backlights all good. Two months later set was dead, had a shorted D9100, replaced all good again.
Now months later set powers up,backlights light ok,no picture. 12volts missing from fuse on tcon. 12VA on power
supply is 19 volts. Changed D9100 again, same, 12 volts measures 19. Am I looking at a power supply or mainboard
issue. Set will power up with remote but not power off.... -
Hi, I'm unexperienced with troubleshooting and I'm not sure how to proceed with this laptop.
Motherboard is A5WAH LA-B991P I think, i5-5200U and nvidia 820m.
When I received the laptop, CMOS battery had 0V. I took it out and all the testing has been done without a CMOS battery and without the main battery plugged in, I haven't been able to see physical damage, burnt or missing components with a quick visual inspection, and no shorts were found.
Laptop charges the battery, powers on when ON button is pressed when powered from charger and when powered from the battery, but... -

Its been a while but I was lucky enough to find 2 this week.
The TV powers on and stays on but no picture. Havent checked for sound yet.
No bulging caps although the insides are pretty dusty and the boards are discolored from many years of high heat.
Will start troubleshooting tonight.

Hi guys! I realized you have a lot of knowledge here so i am hoping you could point me in right direction with my odd issue.
The Tv is a Philips 58PUS8545/12, it had no picture but working backlights.
Original T-con:
Opened the Tv and tested to unplug one ribbon cable at a time. With this test i could see that i got fine picture on both halves as long as there was only one ribbon cable connected, with two connected picture were gone.
First replacement T-con:
I thought it might be t-con and ordered new t-con from china(supposedly tested)... -
This was my main TV for the last 6 years. I'm not inclined to throw out a $2600 TV so quickly so I'm trying to investigate the issue.
Problem
TV was disconnected from power for 6 months during construction. When I plugged it yesterday picture was fine, after 30 seconds it dimmed then started developing horizontal lines, picture then starts to ghost vertically until it degrades into vertical streaks. TV always displays a perfect picture when cold. I can unplug TV for 5 minutes and plug it back in and picture is restored for 20 seconds. I can also keep it in standby mode...
