Sony Android TV KD-49XE9005 4 red flashes

    Hi there

Have Sony KD-49XE9005 that has been working fine for some time now. switched on this AM and after a few seconds screen blank and red LED flashing 4 times. Tried resets and all responding as expected expected and after booting up, after few seconds of displaying normal broadcast picture, screen goes blank red led flashes 4 times in sequence.

Anyone have schematics/service manual for this series. have checked the obvious items and caps test OK, voltages etc appear correct onwards.

    thanks

        thanks Diah

Agreed on the BL check - I don't do TV so wanted to get schematics/info before poking about too much. Chances are a bad cap or joint as the telly works until something overheats or shuts down

you need first , see if yours tuner a separated boards connect to MB. if this case just plug it off and keep the tv on to check no error come as now, and turn BL level under 30 and see if the problem remain or not

removed the tuner and same issues. Checked the service diag and shows events recorded July 2023, unless the date/time is messed up. Dont think it is.
Struggling to locate C464 on BKMS board to test 1.8v to the tuner.

                thanks

Look for the IC405 dc/dc converter on the board, this will help you find your capacitor faster.

thanks Lotas - yes found it and 1.78v at several caps around that IC405. when the error detected the voltages shutdown and four red flashes.
                    tuner not connected

have checked fuses and volts and appears to all be there. think is protection. for few seconds tv picture is bright and clear -no dim areas or issues where the display is not as expected.

can someone share schematics for this model? - thanks

In SONY TV, engineers install a lot of protections, and at any slightest malfunction, the protection is triggered, over time, the LEDs degrade and they begin to consume more current than is included in the backlight driver, and then the protection will trigger and the TV will be blocked, displaying an error code, even if you change to new (not original) from Aliexpress (made in China), then an error may also occur if the backlight driver does not like something.

i understand - seems a waste not to be able to fix older models that still work fine with equivalent parts to avoid going into landfill. is it possible to bypass protection to get some more use?
