While it won't be worth it at all to replace the bulging caps on this Dynex 21" TV, I'm going to do it anyway to keep it out of the landfill. I'll probably end up giving it away but fixing stuff feels good. And yes, I will be replacing all of those PS caps.

I mean it'll cost $2 and 30 minutes of time. Probably worth it. I would also probably give it away free. I give away all small tvs under 50 inches to kids/families also and your right, it's a fun game to fix these things

Turns out it wasn't that easy of a fix. The caps in the power supply were bad but once replaced all it would show is a lit screen for a moment then it would go dark again. That's the classic bad backlight problem with TV's that have CCFL's in them but fortunately the correct size is on sale for $5 each at the CCFL warehouse. In for a penny, in for a pound and I'll end up with a TV for me or somebody else that will last literally for years with new backlights and legitimate caps in the power supply.

Think I would want to inspect/check those ccfl's before this conclusion if you have not already.

ID:	3545049 Here's a sample of what I found on the CCFL's. This is the top assembly, I've already taken the bottom assembly apart to measure them and they looked about the same. The size I need is on sale for $5 each at CCFL warehouse so this is affordable even though I won't see a return on investment. I've got about $30 into it and will be lucky to sell it for $10 if I don't have to give it away. With new caps and new CCFL's it will probably last forever.

Finally put this TV back together- they don't make it easy to change out CCFL's do they? This set was significantly more difficult than the Vizio I did a few years ago. Here's what it looks like at startup, you can see some of what I believe is called the halo effect at the top and bottom of the screen (it's currently subbing in for my 50" Samsung which explains the overly large mount):

When there's a picture on the screen it's really not too objectionable. Not sure if this set had this problem originally as it never actually turned on during my time of ownership. This is from the show "Murdoch Mysteries". You can barely see the halo:

Will see if the original owner wants it back, otherwise away it goes!

The nicest easiest job I've ever had was I found a 65" Hisense Roku tv on the curb laying on top of a 65" Samsung box. Evidently they bought a new tv and threw out the old one. The tv had a constant reboot and after 1 google research, I found that al it needed was to be reset by pushing a button. Tv worked fine so I gave it to a friend who just rented an apartment and needed a tv. 6 months later, still working fine

Samsung F7000 occasionally cycles and fails to switch on
                  by nath1977
I have a UE40F7000 Samsung which occasionally fails to properly come out of standby. The relay clicks and the backlight flashes but then goes off again with a click, and repeats. I think its temperature related as leaving it overnight seems to allow it to switch on OK.

I assume its PSU related and had a look - it's a BN44-00632B. No signs of swollen caps or hot components.

I saw a great YouTube video on a possible PFC related issues and an underrated resistor https://youtu.be/DREofE4WIvg?feature=shared though a quick trace from the SPC7011F pin 7 lead me to a resistor...

Hello. Just want to share my experience of easy DMI Data transfer on HP Laptop with corrupted BIOS.

Open the backup image with UEFIToolWithReplace, go to Intel image / BIOS Region, extract first Padding area, replace it in a new clean factory BIOS using the same UEFIToolWithReplace. That's all ...

                  Tv taping method made easy
                  by handsworth
Just wanted to share some information that I ran across when attempting to do the tape method on a tv with a shorted panel. I normally use magnifying glasses however while watching a you tube video, the person was using their phone. It seems that the Iphone has a magnifier app and wow, it works great. I have Iphone 11 and the app is built in. Pictures attached are screen shots. Made taping the pins a breeze. Also useful when reading the tiny print on the boards. Hope this helps somebody. ...
