    Samsung UE32D5520 sound no picture

Powers up ok sound present no video or graphics backlight on but just a very dark blue almost black screen. No visual damage to both main board or tcon. Any ideas as to possible cause. Any help would be appreciated.

Panel is a fairly common cause on these, for your sake I hope it's not.
Check the T-con voltage at the fuse.

Will test later on today would an absence of voltage suggest a main board issue.
Have already checked the fuse and found to be ok.

As regards to voltage on both sides of Tcon fuse its 12.74volt.

Main board is turning T-con power on. If you have a scope, you can check for LVDS signals going into the T-con. You can also check AVDD, VGH/VONE and VGL/VOFFE voltages on T-con board and see if they are present.

          AVDD: +14V to +17V
          VGH/VONE: +20V to +30V
          VGL/VOFFE: -5V to -10V

There will be test points with these voltages on them.

Re: Samsung UE32D5520 sound no picture

Afraid havnt got a scope. I checked those voltage points on Tcon board and each point showing only low mvolts.

One thing I have found is that when switching on you can tell from the holes in back that backlight is low and also power supply is whistling. If connector to main board is removed backlights turn full on and whistling stops.
Also while power supply is whistling panel connection voltages as follows-
            Top1+ 140volts
            Top1- 87.6volts
            Top2+ 87.6volts
            Top2- 35.5 volts

When connector to main board removed and whistling stopped-

            Top1+ 137 volts
            Top1- 69 volts
            Top2+ 69 volts
            Top2- 1.54 volts

            Thanks for your help

Re: Samsung UE32D5520 sound no picture

Further to my last post found that by using freeze spray on Tcon board picture of Samsung start screen does come on when switched on from cold. The left hand side of the screen for a few inches has different shades of grey bars horizontal down the screen and the Samsung logo is present in centre of screen as it should be picture then fades out to blank screen again.
If left hand side panel connector from Tcon is disconnected when powered up the good halve of screen comes on as normal and stays on the power supply also stops whistling.
Would this prove its a Tcon fault or could it still be the panel?

That is more likely panel than not, sorry

D-series Samsungs are terrible for panel issues. We see one with a bad panel about every week on this forum.

C&B-series had minor issues, but nothing too bad.

There is the chance that it is a problem with the T-con but if I were a betting man I would say 10% just because of the history with the panels in these TVs.

Is it an AUO panel or a Samsung panel? Or something else entirely?

I was afraid it might be bad news.
Its a Samsung panel LTJ320HN01-J made in Slovakia on 26th Nov 2011.
I know its difficult to be sure with Tcon boards so will order one to make sure and send it back if same problem apparent.
Will keep you posted on result---

Re: Samsung UE32D5520 sound no picture

Didnt order Tcon board discovered that the left hand bottom driver board FHD320SL4LV0.1 had 4 smd caps s/c part (cv11,cv12,cv13 and cv14). These s/c smd caps are associated with panel driver ic that is causing different shades of grey vertical bands on screen. When the left hand ribbon cable from Tcon is removed the right side of screen works fine. When both left and right ribbon cables to Tcon are connected the shorted caps on left driver cause there opposite numbers on the right board to go s/c ( cv61,cv62,cv63 and cv64) the Tcon then goes into fail save mode resulting in very dark blank screen. Can anybody advise whether a failed panel ic would have shorted the smd caps associated with it? Or is it likely that replacing the smd caps could be all thats required??

Ceramic capacitors don't just go short circuit for no good reason.

Some do fail due to mechanical stress (cracking tends to cause shorts), but it would rare for four to short all at once, on the same IC...

More likely is the nearby IC is bad - you will have to lift a cap off (one leg only so you know which is which) and check if the short is across the IC or the cap.

I personally would expect IC, another dead Samsung panel.

                          probably just the caps,
                          so pull them & test.

Will do that tomorrow and let you know the result. I am of the same opinion as you regarding 4 failing pointing more to ic failure. Couple of months ago I had a 50inch Samsung cant think of the model number now but one of lower driver smd caps had gone s/c. On that one I replaced the cap and all was well. Big difference with 4 going though. Glad I didnt order a Tcon though!

It had to be bad news! De soldered smd caps today found they were all ok when off the board. It was the pads that had gone s/c from the panel ic. Time to inform the customer of the bad news.

                                Hello everyone,
Ive got a UE60KU6079 on the workbench that is giving me some headaches trying to troubleshoot.
The previous owner stated that there had been white dots on the screen which from the description sounded like some lenses fell of the backlight LEDs.
He had opened the TV from the back, trying to get to the backlight, supposedly gave up, reassebled everything and gave the TV to me.
I expected the worst like ripped COF cables or a cracked panel but could not find anything like that yet.
Anyway I still fully expect that there has been something seriously damaged...

Sony KD-75XF9005 grey Picture but Sound. TCON or panel?
                                by iglitare
                                Hi,

i want to repair a Sony KD-75XF9005 TV that initially only showed a grey picture.
Backlight seems to work, Sound (Setup menu after reset) works.
If i dissconnect the left FFC cable from TCON to panel i have half a screen on the right. If left cable is connected always only the grey screen.
Interchanged the cables, its always only the right side that is working. Always grey if left side is connected.
With my small knowledge i would think at least the cables are good.

Can this happen because of a bad tcon board?
Or is it always a bad/shorted...

                                Hi all

I was just given a Samsung TV with the issue. I read various threads and videos and attempted the ribbon tape method to gain an image, but no luck.

                                Symptom:
                                No picture no sound.
When I plug in the power cord, Backlight LED turns on for a half second and then turns off. The red LED next to the power button located center bottom flashes 2 or 3 times. When the power button is pressed after, it does the same thing.
                                No sound at all.

                                What I tried:
                                1. I tried unplugging the left or right ribbon...

I was given this TV as due to a power outage of constant On/off of power to TV. The TV originally would just click on and off (Typical Reboot Cycle). I opened the back of the TV, and troubleshooted by taking the 96 pin LVDS off one at a time to see if I had a picture on either side. I finally fixed the reboot cycle by finding the error on the left side of the screen off connector CN 1301, and the TV would stay on. Further troubleshooting led me to the driver boards where...
