    Re: Samsung PS51E450 Plasma Problem.

Do them now and then, check ubuntututorials channel for the occasional repair.

Yep, that's a solid short there.

You will need to replace the buffer board or the IC on the buffer.

However, please note... It is possible for a bad plasma panel to kill your buffer board. Please check the edge and centre of the panel glass very carefully for chips or cracks. On these newer panels, it is possible to crack the panel and still get light out of it. However it will quickly fry the buffer board leading to no picture at all.

Also inspect the ribbon cable for tears or breaks.

Also, it is possible that if you receive a new buffer board from a cracked panel, it may be bad. As most sellers do NOT test them despite their claims to the contrary... Perform the short check on your new board before installing it, that way you can be certain your Y-main or panel is not killing boards. (I would not expect the Y-main to kill these boards but it's worth being cautious.)

        Re: Samsung PS51E450 Plasma Problem.

I was looking closely at your video again.
This section of the screen never lights up during the flash.
Is it definitely not cracked on the edge? Cracked areas of plasma panels will not light up.
You may want to check under the frame of the TV.

Also, where is the buffer IC that failed - what part of the screen was it on? Same area which did not light up?

Damn. That sucks. Well, at least most of the boards are OK. As a test, you can hot air that bad buffer IC off, and see if you get a part picture. That will tell you the rest of the boards are good.

Recently I got a 50" LG FHD plasma TV (2012 model like this) and it had a bad plasma panel too, due to a tear in the Y-buffer ribbons.

ok Tom thanks. its a waste of good TVs, i know im slow at doing it but like to try my hardest to repair so they are not going to waste or ending up in Landfills.

Me too, but due to the extremely high failure rate of panels in the newer models of TV, I stick to the older ones, such as Panasonic PZ80s. (Note that it's quite possible the panel cracked on its own, it is a well known problem with Samsung TVs.)

The huge number of panel failures will be the death of the TV repair industry -- thankfully I'm not going that way but I feel sorry for other TV techs.

                    Re: Samsung PS51E450 Plasma Problem.

Plasma by far... too many panel issues with even older LCDs.

Good oscilloscope and a bit of prior experience and you can fix 99% of plasmas.

I've only got two bad panel plasmas out of 19 so far... And both weren't serious just pixel wide lines so sold them for a little less with no difficulty at all. I've had far more bad panels with LCDs and they are unrepairable in many cases.

                        Re: Samsung PS51E450 Plasma Problem.

Well, keep an eye out for PZ80s. Tonight, I just fixed my 7th. I paid less than £50 for it and sell them for around £200 each. 42" FHD 1080p plasma. Takes about an hour to do the fix. Awesome picture. And after you complete the repair you can be more or less assured that it will last 10+ years without fail.

                        I've done
Panasonic TH-42PZ70BA - Sus PASS FET shorted £3 to fix
Panasonic TH-46PZ80B - Loose LVDS cable
Panasonic TH-42PZ8BA - 10 blinks SOS (with friend - MC module cap)
Panasonic TH-42PZ81B - 10 blinks SOS (with friend - MC module cap)
Panasonic TH-42PZ80B - Dead - AC detect fault
Panasonic TH-42PZ8BA - 10 blinks SOS (with friend - MC module cap)
Panasonic TH-42PZ70BA - 10 blinks SOS (transformer thermal fuse)
Panasonic TH-46PZ82B - 2 blinks SOS (with friend - MC module cap)
Panasonic TH-42PZ85B - 10 blinks SOS (with friend - MC module cap)

Older Panny plasmas - so easy to fix & so, so well made!

Still waiting for the illusive 50" or 58" Panny PZ80...

Buzzing and no picture with all voltages correct indicate the plasma panel is down to air.

Run the screen pattern test. Disconnect the mainboard from the logic board and short together the two pads Auto_Gen then switch on.

If you have the test patterns then it would look like a main board fault.

Posting pictures of your circuit boards and giving the voltages you read is always a useful starting point.
Willing to help but I'm no expert.

Problem with LG Plasma 60PM6700 - Random power downs
                                          by theone111
I have an LG Plasma TV 60PM6700 for the past ~12 years.

In the last ~3-4 months I have been having some issues.
                                          1. Problem: It started with random picture disappearing (sound still worked).
Frequency: Happened about once a week.
Solution: Had to turn off TV wait a few seconds before turning it on again.
                                          2. Problem: Then it got worse and the TV started to shut down and when turning on the no picture just sound.
Frequency: Happened about once a week.
Solution: Had to turn off TV wait about 10-20 seconds and turn it on again to solve.
                                          3. Problem: TV shuts down

Fixed a 9 year old UN55JU650 by replacing backlight. Original backlight LED was still working after 27k! hours but terrible picture of course. Few LEDs were out, 5-6 lens fell off (bright white spots) and another few popped off with slightest force. Surviving LEDs were all slightly blue so picture has a blue tint.

This TV runs older Tizen OS (updated to latest version, see pic) and have problems with network (wifi or ethernet) connection. The Tizen UI frequently switch to coax input source while changing content sources. . If no good signal (coax not connected, no prior antenna/cable...

Just starting to crack into this one and wanted to get the ball rolling.

At power on (plug in), power light on, relays click, repeat (sometimes)

After disconnecting Y-Main from SMPS power stays on and boot up jingle is heard from speakers

Removed Y-Main for inspection and testing

                                          This pic from:
