ye have already got the test patterns, so power supply is good i presume, was getting the mainboard voltages from the off but not the vs va etc

the cap i photo'd has like scratching down it what look more like cracking

the top also feels different to the rest not bulged but as though something is coming through

If you got test patterns the main board is the cause of the fault. Check voltage regulators & DC-DC converters but you will likely have another corrupt FLASH problem which will require a new board.

ok tom, the mainboard will it matter if it's came from a different model (bigger screen)

        this one for example http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251488807165

tom, I seen a post you'd commented on on another forum (avs) about a model previous to this (3 series i think) towards the end of the thread I seen a post about teraterm and possibly unbricking (as the symptomns sound like a corrupt flash as you say)

I've just got the latest firmware off LG site and wondered if this would work at all for this model?

I'd expect the TV to operate but the firmware would be configured different for each size. The part number of yours is different to this one?

I have put a 50 in a 42 for a panasonic, it worked but I can't remember if the display was incorrect.

I swapped all the eeproms over from the dead 42 board to the 50 and that coverted to the 42.

I know very little about LG stuff.

just the screen size is different from what I can tell, the board being for a 50pj550, the board numbers match but it's listed as being for the 50 inch model

if the tv did work with it could I update the tv via usb back to the 42 settings with a usb update from the LG site?

Cool, I don't have to break the news it's sold then

would it be worthwhile fault finding the dead board in case it was something simple not that I have any experience with these.

There is an excellent training guide but the mainboard in that is for a different region but maybe enough info to correlate to yours for fault finding?

                      have you got the guide?

from reading posts on lg-hack, avs and tom here i'm pretty sure it's a corrupt firmware as the symptomns match, but no i haven't found a service guide

Ok, that's cool if it's a know fault. It should be possible to order the chip with the firmware loaded then and replace the offending item if that's all it is.

I know you can with panasonic unless LG just sells the blank and it needs to be programmed.

has anyone nailed it to a particular IC?

Just out of interest I just downloaded the 50PJ550 firmware (from lg) and did a content compare of the epk files (42pj500 vs 50pj550) through total commander, they are both identical firmwares.

                            So i'm assuming the 50 board shouldn't be a issue, I think

There'd be more than one lot of firmware on the board and not all would be flashed with the file you have.

Going back to my panasonic as example, there are 4 different flash chips some of which configure it for the size, another has the regional settings.

So now that you're talking in an area I don't understand, what do you mean by a content compare of EPK?

ahh now I understand better, now makes sense why you switched all the parts.

just a comparison of what was inside the file, the result being they are the same.

will wait on this board and see where it goes from there, thanks for the download

So you have an EEPROM reader, is that how you compared the firmwares or did you just download for both models from the web?

If the SMPS is still clicking as mine is try warming with a hair dryer on the Power Thermistor for Limiting Inrush Current, in your picture you have one just below the relay, green colored and possibly marked SCK-086 location TH101, I am in the process of ordering 2 of these parts for my LG 50 which seem to be only available in Taiwan. Its best to do the normal boot up with TV connected using the remote.
                                      Good luck.

                                        Good luck.
already determined the power board is fine as are the rest bar the main board as I got test patterns with main unplugged

also tried the recovery but the board constantly comes up saying "no nand/flash device found" so it's either corrupt or dead

decided to cancel the other board and go for this one, only problem is i can't find the difference between the N model and the normal one

                                        that should definatly work?

The letters after the normal product code sometimes relate to the country so that might be Norway for example. It might affect Freeview but from what I remember that can be changed in the user menu.

                                            by Asxetos21
I have a Dell Latitude 5511 laptop, and lately, a faint but clearly audible electrical (crackling) noise comes from the motherboard, similar to the random clicking coming from a mechanical hdd's heads moving inside it.
The laptop shows no signs of malfunction, and clearly this is electrical not mechanical, so my suspicion goes to a dodgy component in the power rails (a capacitor or a coil?). I fear this could develop into a serious damage.

Any advise on how to narrow it down?

Have a MSI PS63 Modern with a board number of MS-16S11. Havent been able to find schematics or boardview for this machine, but would love to try to get it fixed.

When the power button is pressed, the machine attempts to boot - keyboard backlight turns on, then there is an audible click and the board reverts to a power off state. Press the power button again and the same thing happens. Have pulled the board from the machine trying to locate the clicking noise by sound, but it appears to be coming from everywhere on the board and I cant pinpoint its location.

                                            The board...

                                            Dear all,

For a friend I'm trying to repair an Acer Swift 3 laptop (SF314-42). I'm not a professional, but have some experience (both as amateur and professional) in working with electronic design and repair of musical instruments.

The issue with the Acer laptop is the following:
It was bought new and used (not heavily) at home for about three years. After normal use, it was put to sleep, connected to charger and left over night (just like any other day). The next morning, the laptop would not wake up from sleep. Instead, when pressing the power button, the power...

                                            by Loz2212
                                            Hi guys,

I've got a LG 42PJ550 that went down on me over the weekend. The symptoms are it just keeps clicking and won't start. It was intermittent for a few hours and would cycle on and off and randomly start. Now it won't start at all.

I bought a repair kit which included 2 x 22ohm resistors for R927 & R929, a voltage regulator for IC301 and a diode for D304. I'm also waiting for some SMD resistors to arrive which is another 'known fix'.

I'd like to bow to the alter of the experts here and ask your thoughts... any voltage checks I can do to narrow...
