Solarized picture will be T-CON board. Check the GAMMA voltage on the test points on the T-CON board. Post the picture of the T-CON board.
I do not know about the cause of the delayed on problem. No blinking LED during the delayed period?

If you swapped the mainboard couldn't be possible that that mainboard was set for another panel format and could also be the cause of the solarized picture?

I have a toshiba that's doing this exact issue not as bad as your as my picture is full on the screen and sometimes looks almost normal. I am going to access the service menu and tinker with the panel display options see if it cannot fix the issue before trying to fix the t-con. T-con on my toshiba is buried and hard to access when the set is put together I have to figure out how to run it in pieces to get voltage readings from the T-con!

Interested to see how yours turns out!

As budm asks - "Post the picture of the T-CON board." Personally I suspect main board as Shinju suggests, it is not smooth enough to be gamma and the image also appears the wrong size... but it's always good to be thorough.

Then just post each voltage reading of all those test points then.

                                  Re: KDL-40S4100 lcd help please

I would look into the service menu before doing all this footwork that might be able to be avoided.

I just fixed a Toshiba with a Solarized picture as stated above, I am assuming someone swapped the mainboard out and powered it on and saw that the screen was all mucked up and tossed it out. I found out that the panel output settings were wrong and the RGB CUT and DRIVE settings were also set to wrong output and cause the solarization of the picture.

I am thankful too because a new T-con would not have fixed the problem and the T-con for the 37HL17 is not only spendy its the only one that works for this unit (no shared parts) and rare as heck to find. The Toshiba Service menu was all in Hexadecimals and short hand abbreviations and not easy to navigate but it was doable.

I set all the service menu tuning modes back to stock via the service manual and went from there.

Budm and Tom are pro's and will set you right, I am not saying don't be thorough but check the service menu first it might save you some money! I am no professional just merely giving my advice since I just had to deal with a panel with this issue!

Just make sure to write down all your previous settings first because once you change them there is no going back VIA reset/factory reset as you are pretty much flashing/re flashing the bios.

                                  Good luck!

You will need the remote, I know some like Pioneer PDP's don't but 90% of the other ones do. Being that this is a Sony it will require it.

                                      http://www.ebay.com/itm/SONY-REMOTE-...item27de4e3441

I keep a box of remotes around for this sort of thing, quite a few off brand LCD's use the stock Samsung remote perfectly find but Toshiba,Coby,Sony and Westinghouse seem to only worth with their own brand name remotes. You can try a universal remote but I don't know if that will work.
