    Samsung Plasma hp-t5054 catasrophic failure

    Hey all,
I have a Samsung 50 inch plasma (which is similar to several other models like the one many have contributed to on here). Basically the Ysus failed catastrophically, several shorted fets, transistors and a SMD transistor along with a blown upper Y buffer board. I have replaced all the blown fets and transistors etc on the Y main, and with just the bottom buffer plugged in the TV turn on, does the "doodilydey" and the lower half of the screen is lit. However there is no picture on the lower half. I read somehere that this set doesnt fire up without the upper buffer.. is this true? So why does my lower half of the screen light up? Please tell me of your experience with this model, I am trying to figure out if my Ysus is Ok before plunking down money for a new buffer board.

With this era of Samsung plasma TVs the Y sustain board must transmit the data to the upper buffer and if that signal is achieved then y sustain board will transmit the data to the lower. it is what it is and if you are getting a glow from the lower half of the screen then the Y sustain board is working but you will not have a picture until you replace the upper buffer board.
Did I leave the soldering iron on?

Ok freakaftr8, thanks a lot for that confirmation. Since the buffer board for this TV is expensive, I have decided to hand solder the buffer IC's. Just ordered the IC's, sharpened my soldering tip (which was a chisel shape, now a pointed one) using the bench grinder and ordered a wearable pair of magnifying glasses like that of a watch repairer. Eagerly waiting for the IC's to arrive. Will keep posted.

I did mine with a chisel tip. Much better for heat transfer and you don't have a problem if you use lots of flux

Which mosfets did you replace? Also, did you check nearby resistors and diodes?
