I think mine was found on Friday last, and have some pictures at work,--which I'll get and post tomorrow.
An old LG Plasma, a 42 PDPV7 that I scrapped due to broken screen.
On removal of rear-cover I found that half of the PSU,--the area containing the PFC, rectifiers, main smoothing-blocks and the primary side of the supply had been packed very tightly with Cotton-Wool!
The mains input-fuse has fuse-wire wrapped around it and was also covered in this cotton-wool packing. The whole lot then was covered in a plastic sheet taped firmly in place all around.
--The stuff was even tucked in around the whole board under the edges.....
The PSU had finally quit due to overheating causing the board to distort to the point it touched the chassis causing a short--amazingly the mains-fuse had not failed, and I suspect a series-resistor had saved the day preventing a fire if the mains-fuse had gone!
The area of the switching-regulators and PFC fets of the board has carbonised and black, this poor thing must have been running like this for some time....
Whoever did this so-called repair--potch-up--requires a severe head slapping for this effort in a fire waiting to happen!
I thought I had seen most things--Until life throws another weird thing like this at me!
