Toshiba 37HL17 Seine board questions and Issues!

Hello!

I picked up a project LCD screen for 12.99 the other day at the local thrift store, tv functions as it should but the LCD panel looks like the LCD's are firing out of sync almost as if the colors are negative or revered.

I did do some research to no luck on this particular issue but it did lead me here and information about the CPU T-con LCD controller board or better known as in Toshiba language (Seine board).

Here are some photos of what the panel looks like with the issues it is having. The tv turns on just fine as I have a 32HL in the bedroom that works just fine.

Pretty sure its the LCD controller board and not a normal power supply cap issue but I am all ears/eyes on what it could be!

Thanks for the links, I just went ahead and ordered a new Seine board it was super cheap. I will report back on my findings once I get a chance to crack open the case.

So i cracked the shell and replaced the seine board with a new one and I am still seeing the same solarized picture.

I snapped photos of the boards inside I will post them as soon as I can get to my PC.

Here are some board shots, I finally got into the service mode but didn't mess with anything since it was all in hexadecimals and I didn't know what each menu item was so if anyone has a Toshiba XXHLXX Service menu cheat sheet that would be great!



I don't know what else it could be, I don't think bad PS caps could do this but then again, maybe the panel itself is shot. I didn't get a chance to dive into it too deep as I had a Coby 22" LCD to re-cap.

The crazy part about it is that sometimes in move mode the picture looks fine but all black levels are gone, the wide screen bars are white, and when black/shadows or dark images show up they are all solarized.

Are you 100% sure the replacement board is good?

I had a similar problem with my Sony TV a few weeks ago. I ordered a replacement TCON board and when I installed it there was no change in the problem. With the help of this forum I was pretty sure the TCON was bad. I managed to repair my TCON and now the set works great.

The board in the photo is the original one, I didn't snap a photo of the new one. The supplier I got the parts from is the same one I got parts for another Panel and those were fine. But it could be possible.

I did, I just posted that photo of the old one since I used it for reference on taking the wires off so I knew were they went when it came time to put the new one in and I forgot to snap a photo of the new one installed as it was super late and I didn't want to dig deep being tired and make a mistake.

Oh and one more mentionable thing, the TV overlay's/menu GUI are also color corrupted too.

None of those board in the pictures you post is the T-CON board, the T-CON board is mounted under the metal shield about the top center of the LCD panel.
It looks something like this:

which has AS15 GAMMA IC.

thats looks like a t-con gamma chip issue,with solarization like that,check voltages on t-con

You are right, I think I was confusing the Seine board for the T-con board. But the only board that I didn't get a photo of was the Inverter for the lamps as it was buried under a metal shield next to the power switches.

Guess I will have to examine that, like I said I am new to this and learning as I go

also,there seem to be a LOT of tv's popping up on here with the AS15 gamma chip issue,hmm,be interesting to see the datecodes of all the ones on here,and at the approx failiure time,and see what the average lifespan of these chips in real world time is around.

would be a good diagnostic future fail time for us,just read the datecode and find out after sale when the tv goes tits up ,and reduce the guarantee accordingly

Fair enough! don't beat me with a stick just yet!

I know those chips are surface mounted, would it be in my best interest to get another T-con board or try and pop the AS15 Gamma chip and replace that?

I don't think that's a gamma chip fault. It's too sudden in how it cuts off, gamma chip fault is usually smooth. Looks like bad LVDS cable/seated poorly or main board is outputting wrong format.
