Sharp LC-70LE640U LED HDTV Dim perimeter

I was watching my 70" LED tv, that i purchased about 6 months (refurbished) and noticed that about 8" of lighting went dim around the lower perimeter.

It returned to normal a few times, but now appears to be out for good. The tv is still watchable but in bright scenes, it can be annoying. Can anyone explain what the problem is, and whether this is something i can fix myself, can have repaired, possible repair costs, etc.

I've attached some photos for reference.

You have a backlight problem.. Looks to be an edgelit LED system.. The lower right strip, some of the LEDS went bad. The reason the LEDS to the left of them are brighter is due to overcurrent from the bad ones going out.. Either a bad string of LEDS or a bad connection. either way it can be a tedious job. Especially if the strip is bad, the LCD panel needs to be removed..

First you need to start by removing the rear cover, with the power disconnected and take clear pictures of the power supply. This is the board the power cord goes into.
Did I leave the soldering iron on?

      Thanks for the quick reply.

I am waiting for the wife to go out of town in order for me to take the TV down to look at it.

      Next steps
-I will take off the back cover and take photos of the area in questions as well as the power board.
      -Post those photos.
-Check all connections and re-set any connections in the area of the problem that might look suspicious.

Given the fact that the lights went in and out over a few days (and now have not come back on) does that give any indication of anything?

What kinds of repair costs am I looking for on something like this? Is this something I could do myself or would it be something that a repair shop would end up having to do?

Its a difficult repair with high risk of LCD panel damage--due to its huge size. 70" of 0.5mm glass panel--is FRAGILE!

A 42" is bad enough to potch with!

This has to come off, complete with its tab-strips connected to the PCB's etc, and these too are very delicate. Do Not Strain Anything--even letting the tab-PCB's flop under their own weight can wreck them/break vital connections between panel and PCB....

The dealer--would write the set off, as a dealer repair would be replace the whole assembly, backlight, LCD and T-Con etc....

Then you have the issue of replacing the actual LED's. Advise all the LED strips are replaced--all at the same time--with new ones--IF they can be got....

Here is the lcd manual, I helped a friend replace one of these panels for this very reason, we had one with a broken screen, the led stripes are double side taped down to the metal, kind of hard to remove but could be done.
be very very carefull, it is a pain in the ass to change. also there are `B' grade panels available from Sharp.

Many refurbs (factory) have a 1 year warranty. If yours does, have them fix or replace it. Check that first BEFORE you open it up!

Seems like a common failure with the LED's in these models.

As stated previously the job of replacing them is not an easy one, There is so much that can go wrong ESPECIALLY with an inexperienced DIY'er. IF you can get the strips out you can replace them, IF you cannot source the strips they are repairable tho fiddly. I have done many SMD LED strips now.

Driving a Sharp TCON/panel with a universal main board

This thread is about trying to get an Universal Main Board to work with a Sharp TCON and panel.

I have a Sharp LC-46D85UN TV that has had a main board issue. Since this model is from 2009, I am not able to find an exact replacement of the main board. Instead, I decided to see if I can future proof this tv by getting a Universal Main Board (T53U21.2) from China to work with the Sharp TCON (CPWBX4291TPZA) and panel. The universal main board supports a 8 bit dual channel LVDS interface whereas the TCON requires a 10 bit dual channel LVDS input. I have modded the LVDS connector to match...

Sharp Aquos Lc-80LE757U flashing Sharp on screen when plugged in
                        by sefoster
I have a Sharp Aquos LC-80LE757U that randomly made a loud popping noise when when watching TV one day. We found that the fuse blew and the thermistor. We ended up replacing the entire power supply board and have also replaced the TCON board. Now as soon as I plug the TV in it lights up and has the Sharp logo flashing on and off of the screen. If I unplug the ribbon cable from the TCON board to the main board I get the 2 long 5 short error code. Any ideas on where to go from here? We've tried resetting it but nothing has worked. If we plug it in and let it cycle through the flashing of the Sharp...

Hello, I'm new to this forum. I like to tinker with Sony electronics, I have been lucky trouble shooting sony stuff, But I can't find much info on this Sharp TV.

The problem; plug to power>white led power indicator light is on>it turns on to the red Sharp logo>
then the android logo is displayed, lit fine then the android logo brightness varies, then lit normal, then the tv restarts and does the same startup logos over and over for 5 times then it turns off and the power indicator light flashes the trouble code 3 long blinks plus 3 short blinks .

                        does...

                        Hi folks!
I have a LC-80LE661U that had some interesting issues.
Initially, it would come on and show the sharp logo and would show normal static before shutting off.

I started troubleshooting by disconnecting the led lighting strips and turning it on. It would do the same thing - come on, show the sharp logo and shut off. After reading, it was suggested to replace the main board. That was replaced and the same symptoms resulted. After this and some reading, the parts cannon got loaded up. I replaced the power board, same issue. Replaced the Tcon board and now it...

                        Hello Sharp TV experts
Our Sharp LC-80LE642U displays one short one long flash error code which is a backlight error. I went into service mode and there were 8 lamp error counts recorded. I reset the count to 0 and did a reset. The last monitor error cause was 16 B00014639:12. 16 is the code for backlight error. I tried to power the tv up but went back into error mode.
