gEDA gschem - more or less Linux only.
I use Cadence Allegro at work, and Eagle/gEDA at university.

I'm going to look into that. I have my laptop set up as dual boot Windows 8.1/Ubuntu 12.04. I don't know Linux very well but am learning.

Try opening attached *.sch if you like. (Rename *.txt to *.sch as forum won't let me upload a *.sch)

        From terminal:

        Code:
        sudo apt-get install gschem
        will install gschem

Oh, it's Linux. OK, I'll try this afternoon. I have to take some stuff to the post office and take care of a few things. I'll get back to the board this afternoon as well. Again, thanks.

              ?
Just open the terminal and type "sudo apt-get install gschem" no quotes.
Then after it has installed, "gschem <filename>" will open it or you can double click any *.sch file.

Oh OK I think someone compiled an old gEDA for Windows but it's not maintained any more so I doubt it will work.

I actually love Linux. It just takes me a while to figure out how to do stuff. Once I get it figured out though, I'm good.

I use it everyday for nonprofessional engineering, sadly Cadence not made for Linux so can't use that. Still using XP on work PC, crazy.

I liked XP way better than this 8.0, 8.1 version. All they've managed to do is make the simplest tasks complicated. User friendliness went right out the window.

Can't seem to find the one marked 5K. If it's the HN4B101J nobody has it. Is it possible to substitute it?

A few sellers on Alibaba have them listed, I'm waiting on a reply. How would I test the one I have? The one marked 46 tested ok.

Re: My first plasma, RCA 42PA30RQ - Sound but no picture

Can't believe I've had this TV for 2 months waiting on parts. Well, I rebuilt the x-main and it fried right away. So something is wrong with the Y-main too. So I put it aside for a while because I haven't had time lately. Yesterday, out the blue, someone contacts me and has a Samsung PN42C450B1D with a broken screen. They only want $15 and will bring it to me. So I look on Ebay to see what the parts are worth and realize that it has the same parts as this RCA. So I get the TV. My plan now is to take the panel from the RCA and put it in the Samsung. I figure it will be worth more this way. Before doing so, I decide to test it with the RCA parts. I replace the x and y mains in the RCA with the ones from the Samsung. I get 1click and it stays powered on, but no picture. I turn it off, kill the lights, power back on. I see a few flickers. I figure it's the Y buffer. So I replace that with the one from the Samsung. Power on, and I get smoke and a hole burns through one of the r2a20292bft chips. Upon closer inspection it appears that there is a hole in two of them. I have a mosfet that appears shorted, I removed it and still have a short between the pads. I remove both of the r2a20292bft chips and the shorted pads aren't shorted any more. Does it sound like I can just replace the two r2a20292bft ICs and the MOSFET? Or should I replace all 8 r2a20292bft ICs?

                                          KA78=not a FET, it's a 7805 regulator.

Having a short between the pads is odd, could indicate more ICs are bad (floating 5V or such...) Need exact pinout of the IC to confirm.

If possible I would use the RCA buffer as these Samsung panels are well known to eat the buffer board if the screen is smashed and it's powered on with a smashed screen.
