    Samsung UN60EH6050F Sound-no picture

    Hello,

I have a Samsung LED UN60EH6050 that is producing sound but no picture. The panel is glowing a tinted black/grey, and flickers when changing channels etc. The TV was working perfectly, turned it off for dinner, turned it on later that night with the symptoms. No pop or clicking sound-and otherwise it operates normal, only now it glows dark with no picture.

TV is 4 months out of warranty so Samsung offered to cover "parts," however local technician wants to charge flat rate repair $205 (all labor).

Before I rip open the back and start testing things, wanted to get your ideas on possible fault (Tcon, main board, panel) and whether I should just go with local tech. I have an inexpensive meter, and I repaired a Phillips 42" plasma about 3 years ago (first timer). My fear is if it is the panel, the tech says the flat rate is out the window. Perhaps if I figured out what was wrong, Samsung could just send me the parts....

Thanks for looking, and I will post pics of boards etc. once we decide if that is the route to go.

You say no picture - have you looked up real close to the panel to see if there is actually something there ? You can shine a flashlight on it, might help.

I got real close in the dark and couldn't make anything out. Only the glow and the glow is only altered by changing channels/source there is a slit flicker in glow intensity during change.

Will try flashlight and get back to you.

It does sound like the TCON or TCON fuse.

Checked the screen in the dark with a flash light, no images. Consistent glow.

Opened the back and checked for bulging caps, loose connections etc. All seems good. Kinda felt like the Tcon top connection was lose, but reconnecting it did nothing. You can see it in the "Tcon close" image.

When you guys say "clean the connections" what do you recommend? Canned Air? Some type of wipe? I do have a fireplace in the same room so figured I would try that too.

Posting the pictures now that I think I'll go forward with checking it myself. Also threw in my cheap multimeter so you know what I'm working with here. Definitely a rookie.

Thanks for any advice or best guess if you think it could be the panel.

OK, just be sure, you can see the screen glow when look at the back of the panel or ont he front, just no pictures on the screen, if that is the case, you then need to check the DC voltage on both ends of the SMD fuse on the T-CON board. It is the board under the metal shield that you can see one black flat cable connected to and two brown flat cables connected to the opposite side of the board.

              Thanks for the reply budm,

I can see the glow on the front of the screen and checked the front with a flashlight, in the dark, but didn't see images. The back also had light coming from it.

Is the fuse labeled FJ01, rectangular, and just below the main connection to the right?

Do I test it powered on/plugged in or off/not plugged in?

              Thanks!

"Is the fuse labeled FJ01, rectangular, and just below the main connection to the right?" I see F301 white rectangular fuse to the right of the connector.
You can check with Ohm meter first, TV not plugged in.

TV turned on, black probe on the chassis, red probe on the ends of the fuse. It should be either 5VDC or 12VDC depends on panel design.

Thanks again bud, sorry for delay.

On SMD fuse I got 12VDC on both ends, and 0 for ohm test and a beep for continuity.

Since the fuse checks out ok, any thoughts on what this rules out or at least confirms it could not be?

I found a Tcon on ebay, but am concerned it may not be the Tcon now?

OK, so the T-con is getting the power to it. On the T-CON board I can see about 4 3-pin devices (2 small, 2 large one) which are voltage regulators I believe. You need to take the reading and the P/N on each one of those devices.
Report the reading according to the thread here:

Here are the results from testing the four voltage regulators you specified. Thanks for the link to the guide. I numbered the regulators from top to bottom, right to left based on distance from LVDS. The 2 large ones are #1 and 2, and the small ones are #3 and 4 (right to left). I included a close up picture of each in case I misread the lines, and a clearer Tcon picture (although still not great). Since a lot of the readings are 0.00, I rechecked multiple times to be sure. Also rechecked the main SMD fuse when I was done and it was 12.74 both sides still.

The 2, 3, and 4 P/N do not looks like the P/N for the regulator IC, not sure what they are. #1 has correct reading.

A search for "STC 405 datasheet" (#2) brings up a sheet for a transistor. Could the others be transistors and would they typically read 0.00.
