Vizio VP42 HDTV Blank Screen. Z-sus issue?

I'm working on a Vizio VP42 HDTV (PDP42X3U400) that I picked up from next to an apartment complex dumpster. Someone had already taken it apart (back panel was missing half the screws), and the only thing they seemed to have touched was the fuse, which was missing. I happened to have a couple 250V 8A fuses lying around, so I immediately replaced that fuse. At that point I checked all the other fuses on the tv set with my dmm, and they all had continuity. There were no apparent blow capacitors or resistors.

When I turn the set on, the solenoid clicks, and the tv acts like it is about to power on, but then after 3 seconds or so, it silences the TV static buzz, and even though the led indicator on the front of the tv has changed from orange to green and will remain green until I turn it off, the screen itself remains pitch black. No picture, no picture remnant, even when shined upon by a bright flashlight.

I played around with checking the output voltages from the power supply, and they seem normal, but only when the below happens:
I figured out after some playing around that when I turn the set on with the cord/cable from the power supply to the Z-sus disconnected (see picture) then I get the solenoid click and the Vizio stays on, and half the screen will have "snow" on it and the other half will be black, but a slightly lighter than power off black. When I do this, and then I power off the TV, it will not allow me to power it back on unless I first cut the power to the tv(I'm using a power strip) and turn it back on.

Have I correctly identified the issue as the Z-sustain board, because I heard somewhere that the system will do a power-up check, and if any board is not working correctly, it will not allow the tv to run. When I disconnect this board's power, the tv does not immediately shut down anymore.

If you all can confirm the z-sus board is bad, I don't really want to troubleshoot it piece by piece, I'd prefer to just buy a new one off ebay ($50ish) and throw it in. I just thought I'd get the forum opinion before I did that.
Also, any product repair manuals would be appreciated. I don't know where to begin to look.

Check all the voltages, Here's a LG manual of that chassis--Its on page 60. I'm doing battle with the same chassis--different fault though......

Pointless buying any parts--Till you know which is faulty!

The fault could be on either of the Sustain boards--or not! Voltage-readings will help diagnose correctly....

Alastair E Your url doesn't lead anywhere. I looked on that site and came up with this file (attached). Are you talking about the I/o connections on the main board (see page 31)?

Try this: Guide for 42X3 in there use that to test voltages.

Tom66: I followed the directions on pages 57-66 of the document that you recommended, and I got 0 voltages across all measurements. (however, when I again disconnected the Z-sus board, I got all kinds of weird measurements - 10.2v etc).

What does this mean/where do I go next? Is this a Power supply issue?

Zsus IPM is most likely popped. If removing Zsus fuse makes the TV power up with no picture then its most likely the Zsus IPM. with the fuse removed you should be seeing a slight picture though very dim and torn looking you don't see that?

remove the Zsus board from the TV oHm between vs output and ground on the IPM if you have a dead short that I PM is fried

                  freakaftr8:
Thanks for the info. I powered on the screen with the two fuses removed from the Zsus board, and the result was (see picture) a screen that was half black, half dark grey snow.
I then removed the Zsus board, and there no resistance between ground and any of the outputs (ER_DN_OUT, SUS_OUT, ER_UP_OUT)
So, does this mean it is time to buy me a Zsus board?

Yep sure enough. Zsus had. Replace it or replace the IPM module on the Zsus.

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
                      by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                      Assuming...

Vizio 42" M420SL works then goes blank

                      Good Morning TV'ers

Vizio usually starts and works fine for a few minutes then goes blank. Checking voltages when shutdown it reads 5v on the standby pins on the PS and 12v on the 12v pina, backlights are out now. What can I conclude or where to next.

                      Thanks in advance

                      by mecha1166
Hello, we have 4-6 of these sets now. All have blank screens, or slow-moving colors (looks like tie-die shirt). Some have narrow white lines and color around it.
We have tried a new main and several tcons (2 exact and 2 similar). Same thing. Probably a panel - has anyone had this issue? These are fairly new sets, all but one came from rental.I own one, it was junked out. I tried searching for this model in forums but the search showed no threads for this model number. Thanks for any input!

                      Hi.

picked up another TV. This time is a Vizio M65-C1. TV does not turn on. I had repaired another 60 inch vizio , Bad main board.
When power button is pressed, the Power led indicator on the bottom right, turns for a few seconds and then it fades away. No backlight or Vizio logo on screen. Removed back cover and repeated test.
This is the TV This TV is a little different from the Samsung I have worked on. Power supply is on the Left side, Main Bd is on the right side, T-CON , not in the picture is on the bottom. I am assuming that the boards in the middle are the LED...
