Re: Sanyo DP42849 - No Power At All

This is actually quite well built, I think I'd rank it above the average LG/Samsung mediocrity, maybe not as good as Panasonic or Sony, but pretty good.

Re: Sanyo DP42849 - No Power At All

I just recently did a frankenvision swap on one of these DP42's... I found one on the side of the road with a broken screen took it up...
then found one with a good screen and board issues; but i only needed the screen... come to find out the backlighting system was different so I had use a hair dryer to release the actual screen w/ the t-con board off that CCFL panel and onto the one I had with the broken screen... TV works great too now...

Now I can not remember if the 42inch panel in it was an LG or a Sharp Panel... But I know for a fact that the Sanyo DP46series has a Sharp Panel in it...
Sharp is the leader in larger size LCD panels; I also recently read an article about how sharp now has a universal t-con board that is usable on many panels... Sharp owns Sanyo...

Panasonic and Sony have BOTH left the flat panel TV business... Why; :::whispers::: cause they arent that good; shhhhhhh!

Re: Sanyo DP42849 - No Power At All

I caught hell getting the panel off the backlight assembly when I wanted to check the lamps. I'll remember the hair dryer next time. Now, as for Sony not making panels, I thought they were in collaboration with Samsung on that?

Re: Sanyo DP42849 - No Power At All

DP46 use AUO panels too. They might use Sharp but I know some use AUO too.

          Panasonic owns Sanyo, not Sharp.

Older Panasonic & Sony will beat Samsung & LG, but their newer models aren't much better now.

Re: Sanyo DP42849 - No Power At All

Yea I was going to edit and say I believe that it might have been AUO panel(s) in the DP42s... I have a DP46 here with a broken sharp panel...

Sony hasnt really made any "TV Electronics" themselves in quite some time; sometime around 2006... Panasonic just recently left...

I like Panasonic for their quality yes; to repair and fix-up not so much since they are far and few between...

Samsung has great LCD technology; plasma not so good at all...
LG is a corp giant in a way they absorbed a few companies technology plus their own and have emerged with some good/decent electronics...

Between the sharp, sanyo, panasonic trio it doesnt surprise me now who owns what of whom these jap companies have a long history of working against and with eachother... on an electronics level they buy and sell to each other often...

The world of electronics is an interesting place it can really show you how these companies inner workings and decisions are... for instance sony is making TVs under their name -like many others and vendors- but hardly any parts inside are theirs then you have companies like vizio, ilo, haier, coby etc that you would think are cheap TVs but when you open them up they have rather quality parts in them... sure the firmware isnt top of the line but with it; it would be...

Tom; back on the DP46 panel; what T-con card does the AUO panel use..? maybe I can get something else to work or do another frankenvision LCD panel swap from the AUO to the sharp CCFL BL panel...

ok...have a Sanyo Dp42849 with no power at all. no 5 volt standby voltage. found C602 cracked. I am going to order a replacement. Question is do you think this is the reason I have no 5 volts stby?

Re: Sanyo DP42849 - No Power At All

Standby 5V power supply section is one with 7-pin IC901 and transformer T901, not that section that you show.
MOSFET Q601, snubber cap C602, and T1 are another power supply for 12V, and 13V.
                DELTA DPS-260LP power supply-inverter board.
Do you have DCV on the main filter cap? Fusible resistors are OK?

Main filter cap under the heat sink plate? Fuseable resisters near where the a/c power comes in?
                  not sure where you mean.

Yes, it is under the big heatsink.
Please upload good clear pictures of the whole bottom side of the board, SJ does not have the picture of the bottom side.

OK, check the resistance of those 3 Fusible resistors first to see if they are OK, they should be <1 Ohms or so. if they are OK, then check the DCV between the two legs of the main filter cap, you MUST be real careful because you are working in the hot side of the circuits, you should at least plug the board into GFCI outlet.

.5 ohms on all 4 of the fusable resistors.
167 dc volts on the capacitor.

OK, IC901 is made by SANKEN, STR-A6069.
So you need to check the dcv between GND pin and the rest of other pins.

                                        OL reading cannot be shorted.
If you in DCV mode, then you should see 167 VDC between pin 3 (GND) and pin 7 (or 8).
You can see the example diagram on how the IC is conected.
