LG 60PG60F-UA, Lower section of screen is black

Ok, I have an LG 60PG60F-UA. When turned on, regardless of selected input (including white broadcast snow) the lower half of the TV has no picture. Upper half looks fine. The division is sharp, along a single line of pixels.

You can see this in the attached pictures (sorry about taking them through my railing, don't have a stand, tough to move this big sucker around). I can take clearer pictures if they would help.

If I understand things correctly, I think I'm looking at a bad lower y-buffer board. Am I correct in this? Any advice would be great, this is my third attempted TV resurrection ever.

    Thanks,
    Ryan

A bad lower Y-buffer would be the most likely culprit.

I would guesstimate the same diagnosis as above. If this were a Samsung it would likely kill the entire picture but maybe LG's are different.

can someone tell me where on the back of the set the Y-buffer would be. The lower 1/3 section of the screen that is normally black picture comes on once in a while and could stay on and hour, a day or 5 minutes .... does this still sound like the could be the Y-buffer ?

Re: LG 60PG60F-UA, Lower section of screen is black

Reading through some of the information I THINK I may have the problem of a bad lower Y-buffer. About 1/3 of the lower screen is black. Every so often it will flicker, and by every so often I mean once in a two week period. Very very seldom does it do this.

I have removed the back and checked for lose components hoping a little solder touch up would solve the issue but found no issues there.

Can someone help me locate the lower buffer and maybe point me to a good place to purchase a board. I am not sure if it worth spending the money on the chance that it might be the lower y-buffer.

I am going to send a few images.

I agree with it being a bad buffer board, fixed one with exact same problem a few months back and it was the lower buffer.

Re: LG 60PG60F-UA, Lower section of screen is black

                    A couple of questions:
Is the repair basically a plug and play?... by this I mean it involves removing the old board and plugging is some ribbon cables?

Can someone give me a suggestion of where to purchase this part/board. Is it available maybe through this site Badcaps? That way I can get the part I need and support this site a little.

Yes you just need to swap it out for the new one. You can get your parts at www.ShopJimmy.com

Yep ... checked shopjimmy.com and they did not have one and was not sure when they are going to get any more. Got one through Sears, probably over paid for the board but at least I got one coming. Will let you know how it goes once I get it installed. Thanks so much for your help.

Here is where I am currently.
Put the replacement lower buffer card in and it appeared to fix the issue, but with the following. I now have horizontal lines on the screen.
I double checked the installation, things like making sure the 6 ribbon cables were connected properly, made sure the card was seeded well. I am at a loss of what i need to do next.
Is there a chance I may have gotten a bad replacement lower buffer. It does not look like the are a lot of ways to mess this up.

I have added an image to illustrate what the issue I am having.

Those certainly look like misaligned ribbon cables to the buffer board. when you seated them in did you make sure that it made that distinct click as they properly seated completely into the connectors? Are the tabs hanging over the ribbon connector nibs? One side or both sides? Is very easy not to get them to seat properly. I suppose if you have tried and tried again and don't change you can always have a bad buffer board still
Did I leave the soldering iron on?

Ok ... if this looks like this might be a ribbon cable issue I will recheck ... it is certainly possible is missed something. I will update after I check this again. Thanks for the information.

Freakaft8 ... you were correct about the ribbon connectors. After spending almost an hour of connecting and testing i finally for the the lines not be seen.

Thanks to all for your help on this project.

I have the exact same problem as butchseaman had. I see that there is a LEFT and RIGHT lower buffer board, I'm curious as to which one of these you replaced to solve the problem?

                                    thanks

Never mind, I figured out I was looking at the X buffers...I know which part I need, EBR38574701, hard to find any stock here in Canada.

I finally managed to find the part at Sears, but they won't ship to Canada, so I had my brother-in-law in Michigan order it and ship it to me. Arrived yesterday. Ribbon connectors were a bit tricky to pull out and re-install, but knowing the issues the OP had, I took my time and carefully pushed the ribbons into the new board. I heard a click when the tab finally seated in place. Powered up, and WOOHOO, full picture again.

Just wanted to say thanks to all here who shared information. For under $100, I saved 115lbs from the e-waste scrap heap.
