55 LED Vizio XVT553SV With backlight but no picture. Solved

    Original Problem:
I had this XVT553SV Vizio for awhile now. Original problem was a stuck amber logo after a storm and power surge. Main board had burnt hdmi chip and shorts on the main processor chip. Removed the bad HDMI chip and it was now able to turn on but it would get stuck on the vizio logo or sometimes I get a blank screen with backlights still on.

    Main Board Replaced:
I then replaced the main board with one on ebay that said it had been "refurbished". I plugged everything in, it worked fine for about 10 hours max (in the period of a month where it was barely used) and then while watching one day, the picture suddenly faded away from right to left but the sound was still playing and the backlight was still on. I assumed either the tcon just went bad or the panel just died right there...
However I put my old board back in and the vizio logo popped up stuck as my original problem. So I guess that excludes the tcon and panel.

    New Main Board Defective:
I asked the seller to tell me how it was refurbished so I can attempt to repair the new main board myself otherwise just give me a refund. I didn't get any replies but a full refund was issued and I just kept the original board. Theres even a repair service on ebay for this particular main board from several sellers... I guess its probably a common problem but they won't give out the damn secret....

    Replaced Main Board Again
I just bought another main board on ebay again, the tv is working great again. Hope it'll last this time.

Anyone know any common failures on this main board? 3655-0122-0150 (0395)

    Glitcher,

Did you ever find out what "common failures" are for this Main Board? I have the exact same board. When you plug the set in, the power light blinks orange for 15/20 seconds then goes solid. I then press the power button and the set turns on, but gets stuck on the "logo" screen. I've repaired several E series Vizio's with eeprom replacements, but I can't seem to find any pre-programmed ones for this Main Board.

    Thanks in advance!

I'm in the exact same boat. Set was behind a UPS during a storm but still went out.
Same as you, when I plug it in, it will blink amber and then white for a minute and then solid, I can then power the set and the backlight fires and I get a V logo. No button function, no menu from remote and can't turn off the set by button or remote.
I got this one for free and I'd like to repair it. Seems stuck on the bios splash but without any back end knowlege of these new "smart" televisions, I'm stuck watching it lock up on the V logo and then after a couple minutes it will power down and restart to the same thing. I think this is because my remote isn't paired but I honestly have no clue. Need a reputable source for the mainboard if a suitable solution for either replacing the bios EPROM, flashing the bios? Or replacing the mainboard itself.

Where's everyone at on this problem? I'm eating a donut!

You'll probably need to replace the mainboard. I don't think this is an eeprom problem. I traced out some shorted components that lead me to the main processor chip, so im sure thats whats bad.

I do still have the defective board somewhere that plays sounds but no picture with backlight on. But I'm sure it is a completely different problem. It could be something simple since it failed right when I was watching it, but I do not have the panel to diagnose the main board anymore.

Wow, I'm trying to follow all of these threads to help me along with repairing my dead Samsung but I am starting to think I am in over my head. Give me a transmission, no problem but start talking about mosfetts and I'm screwed lol.

I have this TV and I have similar symptom. I wish someone can share which components are likely to go bad on this board.

I have a Vizio xvt553sv that stopped working after a lighting storm. The television was hooked to a ups, and still struck through the cable box. The Vizio flashes the lower logo several times, then the TV turns on to the V logo on the screen. After a few minutes it turns off from the V logo, and starts flashing on the lower Vizio logo. The TV will not boot past the V logo. The remote and side buttons are non responsive. I conducted a hard reset and powered off holding the on button for two minutes. Nothing works. Does anyone know what board is bad?

Just opened the TV up and I don't see any visual damage. Tried powering up again and the TV blinks white/Orange on the bottom logo for about two minutes. Then it turns white and allows me to power on. The V logo turns on the screen for two minutes with all functions/buttons disabled, then turns off and starts flashing orange/white. The Lightning must have fried a board, just don't know which one?

Your main board firmware is bad, corrupt data. you must replace your main board or a firmware update

I swapped out the main board but I'm not sure on the little mini board that has the black and white wires...which one goes to J3 and which one to J2?

                      thanks!

Ronkirsch....the white wire goes to J2...the black wire to J3. It's a firmware issue in my opinion and I send these boards for rebuild and firmware update to Coppell Tv Repair in Coppell Texas. They do great work and have fast turnaround. It's $69.95 Here is their info.

Short answer: replace main board and power board
Technical answer: replace main board and Q306 & Q307 on power board.

                          Long answer:

TV wouldn't turn on. Power switch was fine which means the main board isn't processing the power on signal. Replaced main board. TV turns on now but randomly reboots. Bad main board? EEPROM? Tried to pull main board and got a shock touching the corner of the board. That's weird. C334 (450V 10uf) capacitor is still holding a high charge....

                          Sony xbr-65x900c main board issues?

Hey guys great forum glad to have found it. I bought a Sony XBR 65X900C cheaply because it didn't work. No signs of life at all not even a light/led. All I hear is a brief high voltage sound when I throw the power to it.

Didn't see any obvious signs of damage so right away started checking voltages. This is what I see:

Hi, this is my personal laptop, which the original board (lets call it Board A) blew up PU8700 (TPS51486), making a hole on the board, i had left the laptop at my desk one day with the battery fully charged and didn't touch it for a week, but when i tried to turn it on it didn't
Thought the battery was dead, so i plugged in the charger then tried to power on, the power LED blinked once, charged LED still orange, unplugged the charger, plugged in again and I noticed the "magic smoke" smell, so i unplugged the charger, removed the back cover and saw the blown IC (the "magic...

Is it possible to upgrade from a Vestel 17MB97 main board to a 17MB110 Main board?
                          by cheeky2
I suppose the real question is whether the existing pinouts from ether a 17IPS71 psu are cross compatible with a 17IPS12 psu? If they are then the exchange of the main boards should have no issues providing the screen is compatible with both main boards. Obviously you can change the screen configurations easily enough (providing you have the correct files) for the main board. Why may you ask would I do this? Well a lot of the smart features are no longer working on a Hitachi 48HBT62U main board I wish to give it a new lease of life!
Obviously the same LVDS connector for the screen connection...
