I had problems with this tv this summer when one day trying to turn on the TV the vizio logo on the front turned from amber to white. However there was no backlight, no picture and no sound. I didn't have time or money to mess with because of moving to a new house and it got put into a corner. I pulled it out over Christmas break and decided to see if it could be a simple repair. Did some research on this forum and narrowed it down to being the power inverter.
I ordered a used inverter off of eBay, maybe my first mistake. The backlight on my tv unit started to work, along with video and sound. It was short lived and after a couple minutes, anywhere between 30seconds and 15 minutes, the tv backlight would turn off. This time the tv would continue to have sound, and when shining a flashlight into the screen there is still a picture. The vizio logo also continues to stay white.
I can turn the tv off and turn it back on and the same process occurs. I have played with all the settings for the picture, reset the tv to factory conditions, and with the tv unplugged held the power button for 30 seconds. None of these factors seem to affect the results. One thing I did notice is that the backlight brightens up the tv screen before it turns off. It also never turns back on, unless I turn the tv off and back on again.
I emailed the person I bought the inverter from and I was told that it could be a bad florescent bulb causing the issue. I would like to get other opinions before I decide to make my next move. I don't want to purchase another inverter board to find out it isn't the problem. Could I have bought a defective inverter board? I didn't see any swollen capacitors or anything that shows signs of being faulty. I have no way to test capacitors either. Then again my current board looks the same way.
I provide pictures if they would help. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
