Vizio E320VL Backlight Issues, Inverter board?

I had problems with this tv this summer when one day trying to turn on the TV the vizio logo on the front turned from amber to white. However there was no backlight, no picture and no sound. I didn't have time or money to mess with because of moving to a new house and it got put into a corner. I pulled it out over Christmas break and decided to see if it could be a simple repair. Did some research on this forum and narrowed it down to being the power inverter.

I ordered a used inverter off of eBay, maybe my first mistake. The backlight on my tv unit started to work, along with video and sound. It was short lived and after a couple minutes, anywhere between 30seconds and 15 minutes, the tv backlight would turn off. This time the tv would continue to have sound, and when shining a flashlight into the screen there is still a picture. The vizio logo also continues to stay white.

I can turn the tv off and turn it back on and the same process occurs. I have played with all the settings for the picture, reset the tv to factory conditions, and with the tv unplugged held the power button for 30 seconds. None of these factors seem to affect the results. One thing I did notice is that the backlight brightens up the tv screen before it turns off. It also never turns back on, unless I turn the tv off and back on again.

I emailed the person I bought the inverter from and I was told that it could be a bad florescent bulb causing the issue. I would like to get other opinions before I decide to make my next move. I don't want to purchase another inverter board to find out it isn't the problem. Could I have bought a defective inverter board? I didn't see any swollen capacitors or anything that shows signs of being faulty. I have no way to test capacitors either. Then again my current board looks the same way.
I provide pictures if they would help. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Have you tried again with your old inverter.

Check you have all the cable seated correctly

A picture of the inverter board might help - if its a long board post in 3 or 4 close up pictures

Here are some pictures of the board. I discovered what had happened with the original board upon closer inspection and have attached a picture of that as well.

On a closer look I found a component missing, location labeled C408 (first attached image) on the new board, but not sure how important it would be. It might have been there at one time by how the soldering remains on the back of the board.

See anything else unusual with the replacement I had purchased? Would it still function properly with this missing?

Many times there are different revisions made to the board to correct problems. I have run across this myself. Slight differences in board may not work in same set with a different revision or version number. Not the answer your looking for but it is a possability.

          Hi,
the missing component labeled C408 seems to be part of the balancer circuit for the ccfl tubes, guess its value is about 15-30pF at 3kV. Take one out of your old board and solder it in place on the new one. It seems to me that C408 is an essential part for detecting bad ccfl´s...?

That is the ballast cap for the lamp, look at the other 7 blue cap to get the value.

So some one worked on this TV before you got it?

Thanks for the help everyone. No the tv has not been worked on before. However the board that I purchase appears to have been tampered with. I'm going to work on getting it returned. If not I will replace the cap and hope there isn't other problems that are associated with this board that I don't see right off hand.

OK - if you are successful in returning perhaps we can troubleshoot the old board. Are those small smd parts burnt - can you see what value is on them.
Before you return the "new " Board see if you can see the values on there.
or measure them- see if they are the same as the ones on the old board.

If you can not return could borrow the cap from the old board and fit it on the new one.
