Panasonic TC-P60S60 New and no go

Got myself (and family) a P60S60 for christmas and wouldn't ya know it when I powered up for the first time all I got was a screech noise and nothing on the display. I could just take it back and get my money, but I can't find another (not even an ST) and I don't believe Panasonic will be sending more out?? Discontinued?? At least that's what I'm being told by most retailers. Any ideas on this as far as fixing? I'm going to try and call Panasonic Canada directly tomorrow to see what my options are. I purchased this thing at Costco online and they say I have to just take it back and they'll give me my money back. I want to keep this TV as it gets fantastic ratings so I was thinking Panasonic might allow me to send it for fixing?.

    Thanks

Did you buy it from a retail store, if so id return it for money back and buy a different tv.
I have salvaged and fixed 18 TVs (1 DLP), 22 LCD monitors, 8 stereos, network stuff, and more laptops and computers than i can count.

Screech noise: the plasma panel is cracked. Return it immediately. Poor handling/shipping damage.

Darn, for that price point I don't think I'll find another plasma like it. I purchased it at Costco and they will take it back no problem and give me my money back.

Yea mostt likely a crack has developed along the frame oof the glass, not visablee to the eye. I have a Panny TC-P55UT50 and hapy with the picture. Can get relatively inexpensive and its 3d and smart as well. Best of luck
Did I leave the soldering iron on?

UPDATE: Panasonic Canada is sending a service tech to my house to fix the TV. I sure hope this is the right way to go. I guess if the issue is fixed then I should have a good tv.

Be very careful -- they could try and claim that you cracked the panel and they might refuse coverage. IMO I would return it instead. Too much hassle getting panel swapped.

I hear you Tom, and certainly value your opinion which is why I just called Costco back and talked to them about that scenario. I asked that if Panasonic descides not to fix it was there ANY reason why Costco wouldn't take it back. They said 100% no reason Panasonic could give them that would cause them to not take it back. They said that if Panasonic deems it non-repairable (they say it's based on cost of repair) then I can just bring it back to Costco and i'll get money back. They also said that I can still purchase the 3 year extended warranty after it's fixed for $99 as well.

millhouse187 - it's easier if you start a new thread for your problem so people don't get confused about two different issues.

Tom - Costco in Canada is renowned for having EXTREMELY relaxed return policies. If it were any other retailer, I'd recommend returning it before anyone else touches the TV, but with Costco, I think crestman will be OK having it checked by Panasonic just in case

Good luck! I considered buying one of these but since they're out of production and there really aren't that many left in stock, there were no good deals to be found around here.. Fantastic TVs from what I can tell..
