LG 42PC3D 1 lane severed on Y Buffer ribbon

Picked this up for $30 and a box of extra boards because this kid gave up on fixing it (red flag right there). Anyway, sound with no picture, blah blah. I read on here a hundred times, Y main and buffers. I replaced those and yes it fired right up with 1079 beautiful lines of HD video. However, I insist on all 1080 lines so I reseat the buffer cables a few time and still have one dead line. i notice now that the ribbon cable on the bottom is severed across one of the traces just about where the missing line is. I'm hoping this cable can be replaced or is this a deal breaker? Also have one black vertical line as you can see by the pics. Any advice, Godfathers of TV repair?

Here's a successful repair to the Y-buffer ribbon, but it's an extreme long shot: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showth...=Ribbon&page=2

The vertical lines point to a panel issue.

      Just a note: this is a 1024x768, 720p TV. Not 1080p.

Someone was careless when removing the ribbons from the y and x drivers.. Have you taken a magnifying glass and lookek for cracks or a broken line in the cables? Creases in the cables or the sort? I have had luck repairing this fault before fut its not easy. However I have also made matters worse on another set I tried to repair this fault on as well and shorted out the whole x driver IC.. If you cannot find the fault in the ribbons, sometimes its just not worth it.
Did I leave the soldering iron on?

That intersecting fault to me looks like one bad pixel has damaged the connection to the others.

Re: LG 42PC3D 1 lane severed on Y Buffer ribbon

Finally got my buddy over here who is an expert soldered and he rigged up a microscope on the damaged ribbon, scraped the insulation off 3 or 4 lanes of the ribbon. Then he soldered little wire jumpers across the damaged lanes. First he did one side and rtv'd down and let it cure for a day, then soldered the other side down and coated that with rtv. It took care to the horizontal lines but I still have one vertical line on the right hand side, black and 1 pixel thick from top to bottom. Re seated the cables all over the place many times but can't get rid of it. Don't tell me it's the panel after all this surgery.

Sorry, those lines look like panel to me...

                Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

T-con suspect issue. Both ribbon cables no picture. One ribbon cable ok. (58pus8545)
                by Tr0ll
Hi guys! I realized you have a lot of knowledge here so i am hoping you could point me in right direction with my odd issue.

The Tv is a Philips 58PUS8545/12, it had no picture but working backlights.

                Original T-con:
Opened the Tv and tested to unplug one ribbon cable at a time. With this test i could see that i got fine picture on both halves as long as there was only one ribbon cable connected, with two connected picture were gone.

                First replacement T-con:

I thought it might be t-con and ordered new t-con from china(supposedly tested)...

Schematic or datasheet for Plasma TV buffer chip
                by Yanleb
                Hi all,

I'm interested in understanding how a buffer board chip is working. I know there's about 90 outputs per chip to the plasma panel, but I'm more interested to know about the input pins. I guess that some of them are address pins, but I want to know more.

So far I've found nothing at all. I haven't found any datasheet about the various buffer chips, and I haven't found any schematic for the buffer board using them (Y Buffer Board in Samsung's terminology).

Any information will make me happy. It can be from any buffer chip or plasma TV manufacturer....

                Quick question about the ribbon
                by Rubenlily
                Hey,

So I have horizontal lines on my TV and I'm trying to trouble shoot. My question about the ribbon is:

When I disconnect one ribbon from the t-con I should get half picture working and other half black or something like that correct? But when I disconnect the ribbon on one side I just get a dark screen and it doesn't matter what side I disconnect. I just get the dark screen. No half working, no one half black and the other one left. Sound is playing from the TV so it's obviously on and when both sides are connected I have the picture with the horizontal lines...
