    Dumpster diving found a TV - fixable?

    So here is the scoop, i found this tv in a box leaning up against one of the dumpsters at the apartments i live in. It appears to be a Magnavox Model: 42mf230a/37

    Knowing it was too good to be true that it would actually work, i tossed it in my car and drove it back and plugged it in and this is what i saw -

    Im too sure what the problem is, which is why im posting it here so you guys can lend me hand.....

    GO!!

    Well... the only thing I can say is that the power supply and backlight inverters seem to be somewhat working. I cant entirely rule out the power supply but... its should be ok. Change t conn board just for starters - cheapest board

      Take the back off, take good quality pictures of the boards, then post the pictures here. Instead of quick reply, you will have to use the 'go advanced' selection, then add the pictures by using the little paperclip at the top of the message box.

              Y-buffer fault, new replacement buffer will fix it.

                  im going to sound ignorant here but, is there an upper and lower on this one? im not 100% sure.

                  in addition, is there any chance maybe something came loose, like a cable on the "buffer"?

                    i also wanted to add that the first picture of the tv on, the distorted image will flicker for a quick second, then the whole big rectangular image will shift slowly towards the right of the tv. if i hit menu or input the distortion will appear in different areas of the screen.

                    dont know if this changes the diagnosis or if it would still be the upper/lower buffer.

                      You will have around $150.00 and a lot of time in it, when all is said and done. IF you are lucky. New boards, y buffers and y main are too expensive if you could find them. So you will have to buy GOOD used ones Thats why it was in the trash.

                          It is good to check the simple possibilities. If all else fails, you can sell the parts on ebay.

                            See if you can check the Vsc and Vsch voltages on the Y-main.

                            Ysc = negative, -200V to -90V.
                            Ysch = Ysc + 70~150V.

                              Y buffer (lower)$15
