    LG 50PA5500 stripped...

So i just went and picked up a plasma. this guy is 1080p made in 2012. Preious buyer was informed its not working, but had no idea boards were stripped out of it. So 30 bucks later its on my bench. founds the boards on ebay from a broken screen tv. Almost complete waiting on a y sustain cable to come in. screen looks good and not cracked. Wonder why it was stripped of all boards.. Anyone knowing the reliability and build quality of todays plasmas want to chime in? What do you think im going to find when I power it up?
Im guessing vertical lines or an ic completely blown out...

    Hmmm.. Diggin the suspence. lol

i bought a stripped set not long ago, LCD seemed intact but there where no boards in it... £5!

It was vestel internals which I have plenty of here, so put them in expecting a panel fault.... yes there was a panel fault.. A dead pixel! LOL

Seemed previous owner just stripped the rest of the boards out when one went bad and sold them... Crazy really as the panel is worth more!

Hope its good news for you

These have tons of issues with LVDS cable and are only 2012 TVs it's bloody crazy!
Just fixed a 32" Smart LED with an LVDS fault

Well the cables finally showed up along with all the replacement boards, hey at 80 dollars plus 30 for the tv, I was taking a risk...

Well heres the outcome, it is a defective panel, but not as bad as I thouht it could be...

Two horizontal lines dropped out on the top of the screen...

Lol I thought only Samsung was having this problem.

Right at the top? That's a liveable fault... Crazy that a panel that new died so early...

this is odd the TV was running for about 5 minutes with the patterns because I have the jumper enabled on the control board however I am still missing the main ribbon that goes between the control board and the mainboard the TV shut itself off I'm assuming it's a no signal and now when I power it back up there is no picture at all. Does it require the ribbon cable connected between the two boards to re enable something am I missing something? Almost as if even though I can hear the sustains running there's still no picture is completely black.

Could be that the test pattern jumper is not in place fully?

I thought that so I soldered it in place. Same thing.

Odd. I don't know, check things like Vs, Va, -Vy, Vsc. Check 5V on control board, check PSU working.

                      Re: LG 50PA5500 stripped...

Ok. The top buffer ic where the dead lines were is shorted. Hmm either the panel took out the IC or the IC was bad and finally failed. Your thoughts? The boards did come from a cracked screen TV.

                        Re: LG 50PA5500 stripped...

Ah, if you got boards from a cracked panel I reckon your buffer was bad... you need to be real careful with those boards... the panel might be OK and bad buffer board cause that fault. Where did you buy buffer from?

Ugh, so no chance of any testing being done. Before you install new board, test as such:

I know I should have known better I was in kind of a hurry this morning usually when I buy a buffer board on ebay if I don't just repair the board myself With a replacement IC I usually ohm the board to the output to see if there are shorts on this one however it's possible that that Ic was damaged but not so and then under use it probably got too hot and shorted

This could mean that line wasn't really a fault with the panel but with the buffer board.

Yes. Crossing my fingers. I have heard before of panel failure like that causing a buffer ic to short. That's what I'm worried about. I keep thinking of the back of my head that that unit was stripped of all boards for some reason

oddly I can't seem to find that IC anywhere

You could swap two buffer chips around to confirm the theory before ordering more parts.

Have any idea where to get r2a20299ft 151106 buffer ic? Is there an equivalent?
