    Medion 20043 UK-A

Hi. I'm in a pickle with this TV, which uses the Vestel 17MB35-1 Chassis. Due to a faulty power supply the SPI flash i.c U114 has become damaged, the set is now working but I have no DVB, just a blank screen, when I put the set into standby I get a flashing blue LED.

I have a replacement i.c but obviously need to flash it, but I can't locate anywhere I can get a complete dump of this ic, I have firmware for the chassis but since this chip also contains the boot code for the MPEG decoder (CT216T) the digital side will not boot up to accept firmware (hence the flashing LED as it also is unable to shut down correctly).

Does anyone else on here have access to a Willem or similar programmer and could dump the contents of a working U114. I'm trying monitor.net (Russian site) since they seem to do this stuff but my post keeps violating the forum rules (maybe bad translation).

The ic type in my set is a Winbond W25X32SIG 32 Mbit SPI flash.

I could always change the main board but this isn't the way I like to work, and it will add an unnecessary expense.

I may have an MB35-1 lying around, but I wouldn't have a programmer, could post it off to you? Will check my pile(s).

Sure I have a MB35-1 here somewhere too, but same position as Tom and do not have a programmer so cannot dump it.

Hi, sorry only just spotted this reply. If you could post one off to me that would be great if you can let me know if you have one and I'll let you know where to post to, let me know how much plus postage, I could paypal to you in that case.

Thanks, sorry for late response I keep going on and off these sets when time allows.

I do have one but it has been warped by some idiot smashing the TV with a cricket bat (well, that's what it looks like) - if you think the NAND is still good then PM me.

Has anyone got an MB35 board that is no good, that could be used as a donor? I've had no joy getting a dump of U114 (those Russians don't seem to like me).

              Re: Medion 20043 UK-A

Been a long time since I posted this, but I have an update. Had no joy obtaining the dump of U114 so bit the bullet and bought a cheap 17MB35 board. The one I bought didn't have a VGA socket but I decided the contents of U114 would be the same. Board was bought as a worker from a smashed screen set, but I couldn't get it to come to life in my set. Decided to remove U114 and fit it to my board. Result, working DVB-T at last.

I then removed U114 again, rigged it to the Willem programmer and dumped it's contents for possible future use. Now reinstalled in the set and working.

I still have an issue with the power supply, it's flaky when cold, also makes a rustling sound which seems to gradually improve. I have a feeling the PFC isn't working correctly as I only get around 375V when on. Am going to replace some of those crappy Chang capacitors before I go much further though.

I do find these EEPROM/Flash dumps very useful it's a shame we can't get some kind of thing going for these along the lines of the service manuals. I know most members probably don't have access to the equipment to dump these though.

So if anyone ever needs the contents of U114, I now have a copy of this, I did take the dump after tuning in here so it will be programmed with channels from Winter Hill, but it's a simple matter of doing a first time installation to clear that.
