    Re: Lg 60PK550 Problem

I don't mean to jack your thread. but i just buried my LG 60in Plasma today due to a cracked display . I actually had to help the trash man get it on the truck. with that said i did take out the boards.(it was an organ donor) I was gonna list them on ebay till i saw this thread. My Model # was a 60PK750. not sure if the parts are interchangeable or not. if I can help I'd be glad to have the memory of my TV live on making others happy.....

@ 102mm thanks for taking the time to reach out! If you could take a peek at your power board to see if they're compatible, that would be great! The power board is the tan colored one that was in the centre of the panel. If you take a peek at the top of the board you should see 2 sets of numbers (pic attached) The top one should be the same except for the number(s) after the slash. The lower one should be identical to mine. If it is, they would indeed be compatible and make a good candidate for donation!!!

I'm sorry to hear that your display cracked. How did that happen? Mine usually lives on a wall mound that extends away from the wall for access to the cables and such. Every time I pull it away from the wall, I can't help but imagining the mount failing and the thing coming crashing to the ground. They've got great picture but they certainly are heavy sons-o-guns…

I have the same board. The death of my TV was totally my fault. I was moving, had it leaning against the back of the couch when my kid jumped on the couch and pushed it back I guess. It sounded like a bomb when it hit that hardwood floor. When we finally got it up there was a long diagonal crack in the display. I cried, he cried, then we went to McDonald's.. attached is the picture of the power supply and the funeral. I did list the parts on eBay. Should have checked back here before I did that.

Ah, bummer! I see several on eBay. Which is yours?

EDIT: I just bought one off of ebay that looks like it might be yours. Same numbers from a 60PK750.
@Allan, I should have the part by next wednesday and should be able to say definitively wether the PSB is indeed the weak link
in our mutual problem. I emailed you a link to a board listed in NZ that you might be able to get cheaper shipping on.

I don't think it was yours. I got mine for $60 inc. shipping. I'm glad you sold yours though!

Well, I'm not sure what to do. I got the replacement PSB in today and the TV is exhibiting the same symptoms as before... Any final thoughts before I hang up my multimeter and buy a new one?

I'm wondering if the logic board could cause issues? I'm 80% sure I'm going to go out and buy an LG 60PN5000 from Walmart that's on sale for $598. Apparently, they're trying to clear out the non-smart TVs. The purchase of a new tv aside, just can't bring myself to abandon a TV that's close to functional. It would be a shame to chuck it. Maybee I have a problem.

                      Re: Lg 60PK550 Problem

Update. I've made peace with not being able to fix the TV. The new Plasma made it's inaugural movie viewing last night and it's basically a newer version of the 60pk550. I'm going to try to find a repair place that will take the old TV for parts. Thanks so much for all your help with troubleshooting this. I'll see you all around. Allan, if I can provide any more advice on your TV don't hesitate to contact me via email. Also, if anybody in the future want's to resurrect this thread, I don't seem to be getting email updates with new posts so just PM me.

                        Re: Lg 60PK550 Problem

Before you do that I would research a few things first. What voltages are you getting out of the power supply upon cold start? This could be as simple as a voltage going high or low when you heated this ic before. So essentially its changing voltage allowing another board to come up.
Did I leave the soldering iron on?

There is also the potential that the new board is faulty, so don't rule that out.

                            Hi folks,

Just thought I would jump in here as I just got a 60PK550 to fix yesterday. The symptoms are very similar but not identical.
Vzb initially is almost 100 v but drops to 15v. All outputs from the PS are correct and stable. Vy and Vsc are correct. There is a low but distinct, clear tone coming from the speakers.

one of the VRs on underside of the main board has 0v on the input but without a diagram, I am shooting in the dark. I don't have the location at the moment but it is marked "eh18a" which makes it a LD1117A.

I am considering ordering a main board but I would feel better if I understood what goes on with the low Vzb. Comments?

                            Best wishes...

Hi Fireproof. Sorry to hear your replacement board didnt come up. I havent touched mine since we last spoke, just waiting to see if I can get more information first.

In the meantime I'm trying to get up to speed with my diagnostics skills such as testing voltages and general repairs. In this respect practicing on a broken set-top box, which obviously needs a burnt-out IC replaced.

Freakaftr8- When you say testing the main power supply, do you mean the Power Supply Board, such as shown in this video-

Yes. Were looking for a minor to moderate fluctuation in one of the output voltages. Something like a rise in Vs or o e of the low voltages when the original poster had thus issue. Possibly a 12v or.a 5v or.a 3.3 stabilized when the board got heated.
Did I leave the soldering iron on?

Hi friends, I had a similar problem with my LG 50PK550. I wasted 2 weeks on it but couldn't find the issue. It had an intermittent power issue. Lastly I replaced IC701 at the back of the power board and it solved my problem. Not sure what chip the 60PK550 uses but here is what I bought from this guy. I hope that helps somebody.
