Hello all, I need some help. My Vizio E550VL Has sound and I beleive a picture dimmly in the background. I need to know the first things to do to check the voltage that fires up the Back light invertor board, The switched Vdc (VBL) and then if it proves to be there what to try next. I have read all of the sticky in the trouble shooting tips on LCD TV's. It helped me a lot but with no diagram for this TV I still need help. Thanks for any help you can give me, geraposi

Re: Vizio E550VL
Hi budm, I just looked at the screen in the dark and with a flashlight shining on the screen there is some movement in the background. I saw the how to, reading a previous post on putting pictures into the forums posts but can't find it. Also which board or boards do I need to put up?Comment

Re: Vizio E550VL
So the backlights are not on right now, you can post the pictures of the inverter board and the power supply board.
There are more than one versions of the boards used in this model as you can see here:

Re: Vizio E550VL
OK, on the connector of the power supply where you can see the PS_ON pin, there are 3 more pins next to it with label "A", "B" (not used), and "C". So check the DC voltage of those 2 pins when TV is off and when TV is on. I am not sure which one of these 2 pin is the BL_ON, and Dimming, but we just need to find out if the voltage on those 2 pins will toggle or not.Never stop learning

Re: Vizio E550VL
OK, I expect A to be higher than 0.2V, so lets try this: First you need to cut (cut it long enough to be able to splice the wire back together, or if you remove the pin) that wire that feeds the 'A', then use 1K resistor between A and 5V, power up the TV and see what happen.Never stop learning

Re: Vizio E550VL
I may have goofed up. I turned the tv on with (A) wire cut and no resistor in circuit just the open brown wire to (A).. I had backlight pix and sound but lost remote control function. with 1000 ohm resistor between 5v and (A) remote will no longer turn set on but button on side of tv will and we have pix backlight and sound. The buttons on side of tv seem to be functional.Comment

Re: Vizio E550VL
OK, all we care right now is that the power supply and the backlights inverter circuit are working, since you are getting backlights OK, that means the problem is in the main board.
I am not sure at this point if this one of those E series with EEPROM problem or not.Last edited by budm; 12-02-2013, 02:24 PM.Never stop learning

Re: Vizio E550VL
After further testing with the thousand ohm resistor in the circuit the tv will turn on and off using manual buttons. It has picture and sound using ant./cable input and componet input. All three HDMI inputs are dead. This was the original problem along with picture fading? OR going out? I do think I probably damaged the remote section in some manner when I fired the set up with the (A) wire cut/open. That voltage goes high with no load. I was measuring that the first time I turned the set back on after cutting the (A) wire and I can't be sure but it may have gone to 300v, could that be possible?Comment

Re: Vizio E550VL
Cutting that wire does not cause any damge, the highest voltage it can go up to will be only 5V, the max voltage on the main board is 12V (for sound).Never stop learning

Re: Vizio E550VL
Good things happen... We moved the tv so we could see it better and the remote control system started working again. That leaves only what ever is wrong that's causing the problem with the backlight turn on and the three HDMI inputs that are dead...Will it damage the tv to run it with the (A) wire cut and jumped through the 1000 ohm resistor to the 5.0 vdc feed? geraposiComment

Re: Vizio E550VL
You can run with the wire cut if the backlights will stay on, but your main board will more likely to die completely since the HDMI sections already went out, be ready to buy new main board for it, use outlet strip to kill the power to the TV when not in used.Never stop learning

Re: Vizio E550VL
our main board is Part # 3655-0162-0150 (3C) The replacement board I see on differant sites is Part # 3655-0162-0395R
I read at www.elektrotanya.com about a repair kit for the main board part # 0171-2272-3253/54 for $18.95 or so. I have no idea what it is but it may be an EEPROM.Comment

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?by Tynan DillI was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.
Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.
I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.
The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.
With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

When power button is pressed, the Power led indicator on the bottom right, turns for a few seconds and then it fades away. No backlight or Vizio logo on screen. Removed back cover and repeated test.

by howardc64Bug looks like hardware so thought I posted it here. Exact same behavior on 2 different model 4K Vizio TVs running their SmartCast smarttv software. After launching youtube app, press vizio button on remote to return to the smarttv menu, once in awhile, a column of bad pixels will show for few seconds on the left hand side.
It seems the vizio software is reinitializing hardware when returning to the smarttv menu. In general, SmartCast software isn't very good. Also will randomly (relatively infrequent) get no network connection when on wifi and require reboot.... - Loading...
