TC-P42S1 11 red blinking led help!!

I have aTC-42S1 I bought new in 2/10. Got 11 blinking lights about a 2 years into use. so about a year now i've been crossing my fingers and sometimes it comes right on and others it takes a time or two. Recently i was on vacation and unplugged tv from the wall. plugged back in when i came home and the tv gave me trouble by not coming on for quite a few tries then it would come on and go off after about 15 minutes. got it too work that night but the next morning all i could get was the tv power on(slight lighting up of screen )then a snap, then go off with 11 blod. Someone was kind enough to email me a suggestion and diagram about the fans.

Took back off and the fans do not even run. My grills were really clogged but not fans on inside. I do not recall ever hearing the fans as i have heard people complain about elsewhere. Fans not running with he back off either.

Next step, unplug tv, get a 1/4" jumper cable (?) to fool the tv into thinking the fans work. As u can tell my tech is severely limited. I am about at my limit with the screws on back. Am very leery of electric shock as i have read.

I do not see any burns of any kind on the boards and wires etc.

How long does the tv hold an electric charge? ie when is it safe to poke around?
    Thanks ahead for any help.

    Frustrated in Paradise
we have no tv repair persons on this island. I have been advertising for one for over 3 weeks now. We lost our sears and have no tv shops per se. If i wasn;t such a klutz this might be something to look into as a second job, which i need. I can't even get a new Panny shipped here even if i could buy a new one.

On the fans, you have a red, yellow and black wire. The jumper will be between either red and yellow, or yellow and black. Where do the fans connect? Can we get some pictures?

Follow the guide , stick to the connectors mentioned, you'll be fine.Have the set off whilst you're setting up the bypass.

To post pictures, "go advanced", "manage attachments" at the bottom. i think max size is 2000x2000.

ok about this jumper . just any old wire? all my stores are closed at moment but it looks like any skinny wire might do?

You NEED to post a higher resolution picture so we can help you. Try tracing the wires to the A board, this is the board which has the HDMI, component video, etc on it. It's possible they could go to the power supply board (which is the one which takes the AC input) but it varies depending on design.

Better? I am guessing the green board in lower right is the A board. Agin no burns of any kind. I'm kind of dead in the water till i get a jumper wire. Is that what i ask for at the harrdware store? went to one and no luck. Sorry to be so dense I hope u don't get anyone more challenged than myself.
            thanks again

Try to use flash to improve focus, but it looks to me like the fan connections hook into the bottom right board, please trace them back and tell me if I am right or wrong? Yes bottom right is A board, i.e. HDMI/component etc.
Jumper wire: you can use standard 0.5mm hookup wire or metal cable tie with ends stripped off.

more. i have disconnected one fan as shown and then the black red and yellow wires run to green board. checked out service manual - now i can go to it when u say something i don't understand. like different boards, saw the schem on removing fan. just need a wire for jumping. hope these pics are ok yes , the lines run into the A board.

Do you have any paperclips? Maybe they could jumper this for you

A30 should be for the fan connection. Yes a bit blurry, I've marked what I believe should be it Tom. Sorry, no good with crayons.

Decided to use paper clip. Did as instructed and tested one fan with a no result then the second fan ,B, then on remebering neither fan was going when i opened it up i paperclipped both fans and the tv works!!! pic enclosed with blue paper clip showing and one on B. Question. Is this just a work around? no kids so leaving back off till i find out what is next. I am assuming I need to replace both fans? The purpose of the fan is keeping inside air cooled? The tv is in breezy spot (no AC). Can i keep these paper clipped for a while or what? Somewhere I saw posted a part number for the fans L6FAYYH0094 How do i find this out? What is my shock likelihood with an exposed to the back wall TV?

Well , that was easier than i expected. No you'll be fine, I'm sure you're smart enough to realise that if it's on not to stick your hand aimlessly in the back.

Page 88, item #3, 42S1 service manual which I uploaded in the post above.

I don't see a major issue as an interim so long as the clips are in firm enough not to fall out and short something and I'd tape them up just for a bit of safety and security.

I'm thinking the likelyhood of both fans being dead would be slim so the fault may be in the fan cct itself on the A-board? You'd need a multimeter to check if the board is sending power to the fans.

Or remove the fans and if you have a 9-12v battery maybe power them up and see if they function?

Tom will probably have some good ideas too so I'll be interested to read what he thinks.

What I don't understand is why some have fans and some don't? My 2010 50" FHD has no fans yet similar models in other parts of the world do?

Our climate is warm, enough to justify fans and fans can only be of benefit for longevity. heat definitely shortens the life of most electronics.

It's a shame it's up to you to fix this with no repairers available unless you know someone whio may have some electronics skill to assist you with it.

Sure you could take a gamble and order some fans hoping it's them, your call.

I think it would be worthwhile to power them externally first to further the fault finding.

Looks like you'd have to get the OEM FAN otherwise if you had the right tools and experience you could get the same type of FAN and re-terminate the connector and that would be cheaper. Looks like $20-30 plus postage to you??

I just don't remember ever hearing the fans and I am in a fairly small space. But ur saying seeing if I can power the fans before I remove them? Makes sense. I have no problem with paper clips. Got em in pretty good. What is an OEM? Thanks for the links, very helpful.

                                OEM = Original equipment manufacturer.
example: SANKEN FAN, so SANKEN would be the OEM providing fans to Panasonic.

What do you think Tom, both fans failing simultaneously? Bypass and be done, or keep digging at it?

Nothin wrong with taking them out to test first. probably easier too. Alternative is to blindly replace and either you fix it or it has the same fault and $$ wasted.

More likely main board not sending power to fans... OR one fan is shorted/stuck and regulator on main board in current limit.

If I leave them jumped then should i find a metal wire or something that is better at conducting power than the clips?
